The IRICALS are a vocal harmony reggae group conceived by lead vocalist and founder Rhedda J in Miami Florida in 2005.
The group represents Rhedda J’s influence of Rastafari, his prerogative as an artist for social change and a passion for musical harmony.
The IRICALS trio-sound delivers an enchantingly smooth flavor and has been compared to some of the great names within the reggae genre. The main influence of the group’s sound comes from the sweet three part harmonies produced in Jamaican music of the 60s and 70s from such groups as the Heptones, The Mighty Diamonds, the Congos, and the Wailers.
To date, the IRICALS project has consisted largely of transitional members, but that has been no real hindrance to the consistency of the music in the view of Rhedda J, as he remarks:
“I love the variety of talent that I have been blessed to have worked with thus far. I have enjoyed immensely the cooperative creative process that happened with the development of this group, and it continues. The songs have always come through stronger, I believe, because of every dedicated soul who has added to them with passion”
From the group’s inception, Rhedda J has welcomed several talented individuals, both male and female, to fill the harmony positions and to also contribute their own songwriting.
The current lineup of the group includes Rhedda J on first vocal and two female members, Empress Lu and Soul Whisper, long-time vocalist residents of the west coast.
A distinctively classic sound, the IRICALS’ emergence represents the revival of a style which has been largely missing from most contemporary reggae formulas and has definite potential to fill a position among the world-class spectrum of talent in the world music/reggae scene today.
The group’s latest performance repertoire includes great acoustic versions of songs that have been written over a two-year period plus at times, some adapted interpretations of some well-known covers.
The IRICALS perform whole and partial set engagements for private functions, benefits, cultural events, etc., as well as opening for major artists.
