Bio
Formed with members of such Denton bands as Pinebox Serenade and Warren Jackson Hearne and the Merrie Murdre of Gloomadeers amongst others, The Jakeys are an explosion of vocal harmonies and songs that invite gang vocal sing-alongs from the audience. A favorite at Celtic oriented events like St. Patrick's Day and Burns Night, The Jakeys are different from other bands in the Celtic music genre in that we rarely play the rehashed elevator music trad songs that, while still pull heartstrings at folk sessions, are standard and recycled throughout the genre. While we do cover the more raucous drinking songs like Wild Rover and Dirty Old Town, we also perform a slowed down Irish version of Iron Maiden's "Run to the Hills," which gets people young and old singing along with us. We are influenced by Texas bands like Slobberbone as well as metal and folk and classical. The heart of our songs are in the writing. Our songs tell stories and comment poetically on the loneliness of the human condition, and how the bottle seems like your best friend until it knocks you through the ropes.
