"MUSIC :: The Jane Does – The Marshall Mixes EP"

Let’s get it out the way! The Jane Does are not simply five glamorous, gorgeous female musicians from Tasmania. The Jane Does are an excellent rock band.

The Marshall Mixes – produced by Marshall Cullen for Reality – is a high-energy pageant of an EP. With a nudge and a wink, The Jane Does deliver colourful, vibrant, fun tunes that explore a range of power pop with a true rock ‘n’ roll feel.

Take glam rock’s attitude. Trowel on a layer of punk, bag with beauty and paint with more than a hint of aggression, allow time to cure and you’ll have something like The Jane Does.

“Looking familiar like something I’d seen before,” Amnesia, the first track is smooth rocking pop, stuffed with appetising hooks and seductive vocals. Its under-taste bears a solid beat that stews in a cauldron of steaming melody and sweet-savoury harmony.

Beg for a second helping of Tea Leaves, which sounds like a clash between Suzi Quatro and Fanny Pack. In this deliciously intoxicating fun tune, The Jane Does bounce in a difficult-to-resist, catchy groove.

“We party hard. We party late.” Sauté in the substantial Threesome. This is a hard-hitting refrain that clearly displays The Jane Does as being multi-dimensional. Threesome, “it’s every wild guy’s fantasy,” comes across more of a live highlight, rather than a killer album track but its blasting guitar will have you salivating.

By Myself, a heady growling tune that is a significant reminder that Tasmanians rock as well as anyone. This is a grinding powerful song with some hard pulsing vocals. “It’s only fun when it happens.”

The Jane Does create guitar driven songs, with interesting melodies that all listeners should find entertaining.

This EP, although a savoury entrée, is an appetiser that excites the palate for the future banquet that is a sexy, fun, rocking The Jane Does album.

If you like glamorous rock you’ll like The Marshall Mixes.

Bio

For a long time The Jane Does were merely an idea shared by vocal partners in crime Bec M and Nat. Despite a previous rivalry during college, the girls were drawn together by a mutual love for vocal theatrics and the exotic rock band 'The Voyeurs'.

Upon uniting Nat and Bec M decided that they wanted to start an all female band when the time was right. The girls managed to convince long time friend (and coincidentally bass player) Cara to join their dream adding the blond flava to The Jane Does.

Due to a significant lack of female musicians in Launceston it became apparent that they would have to poach a drummer and guitarist. Bec B was head hunted by Bec M while playing at a Uni Competition and agreed to join simply to stop the harassment. While guitarist Jharna was always up for an opportunity to rock out and quickly jumped on The Jane Does ride.

And so... in February 2004 The Jane Does made a controversial entry to the Tasmanian music scene with their glam look and own distinct rock style.

Since then they have supported numerous high profile acts such as Magic Dirt, Gerling and Machine Gunn Fellatio, released an indie EP 'The Marshall Mixes' and have had their new single 'Pink Shattered Mirror' recorded by Marshall Cullen feature on the Ausralian emerging artists 'Grow Your Own Vol 10' compilation - out of Foghorn records in Sydney.
