The Story Behind Our Name
The name, The Jane Gray’s, originates from the name of a girl the lead singer, Michael, was dating. However, she was known by a different name. Jane Gray changed her name sometime before that and it was only after the relationship ended, that Michael found out this was her real name. Jane Gray changed her name because she had experienced much turbulence in her life and felt that changing her name would wipe the slate clean. The twist is that Jane Grays new name meant “Queen” in a certain culture and Jane Gray was an English queen who was beheaded at 21. So nothing has really come about from Jane Gray changing her name and since the name was abandoned, we gave it a new home.
THE E.P COVER
The cover for the Jane Grays debut EP, “World Leader”, is a statement by the band on the state of the world. “We don’t need another world leader” is the main lyric in the single. Are these leaders actually making a difference? Are they the solution, or part of the problem? The cover displays a blood stained chess board, this depicts a battle of supremacy between leaders where one will win and one will lose. If you tilt the EP cover upwards anti-clockwise the toppled king features a blood stained kneeling figure that has been impaled. The figure has its hands tied behind its back indicating an unfair fight.
