"The Jank / Manning Her Ladyship CD"

With song titles like “Titties & Beer” I was at first going to dismiss this CD as yet another lame misogynistic punk boys fest, but actually that song and the rest on the album is more clever and poignant than I would have ever expected. Plus these guys have a pretty good knack for writing catchy melodies and delivering them with unexpectedly sweet vocals.

SOUNDS LIKE:
Nerf Herder, New York Dolls, Flamin’ Groovies

SUGGESTED TRACKS:
1 “Blowing Myself Away” (catchy punk-pop)
6 “Drank” (cooler than anything on the latest NEW YORK DOLLS)
12 “Thank You Boys” (if RAY DAVIES were KINKier he might have written this) - Pirate Cat Radio

Bio

Late in 2004, San Francisco guitarist/songwriter Poopy Lickles became dissatisfied with the limitations of the band he was in and began looking for collaborators to begin a new project. Influences like Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer and Ween were cited for the new band, which would focus on tight instrumentation, melodic songwriting, fun live shows, and no small amount of guitar rock. A Craigslist ad landed bass player Erich Schulz and after much coaxing, a drummer was secured in Poopy’s co-worker, Dena Gerbrecht. Soon, second guitar and songwriting abilities were found in Poopy’s long-time friend and recent Bay Area returnee, Johnny Tripod.

The Jank (named after Dena’s janky drum set) was soon playing clubs throughout San Francisco and in late 2005 they recorded a three-song ep on a shoestring budget. Gerbrecht's departure in 2006 left the Jank in limbo for quite some time during which they posted ads and continued recording with a drum machine. After a long and frustrating search for just the right fit the remaining members of the Jank were eventually contacted by Welsh-born drummer Tony Corten through another Craigslist ad. It quickly became obvious that the Jank was once again a complete band and they were soon back on their feet, rocking harder than ever.

In 2009 the Jank completed work on it's first full-length album titled "Manning Her Ladyship." Entirely self-produced and containing fourteen original songs, the album was released on December 12th, 2009.
