Biography

The Jardines, with their “go big or go home” attitude, is an 7 piece contemporary country pop/roots act fronted by mother/daughter songwriting duo Cherelle and Ajaye Jardine. Their story has a fairy tale start, but would soon evolve into the reality of a 7 piece band with 2 albums in 2 years:
Cherelle was getting ready to record her 5th solo cd when she casually asked Ajaye, (a budding singer/songwriter), if she would like to create a project together – a mother/daughter band called The Jardines. At an age when most teenagers would balk at joining forces with one of their parents, Ajaye said yes... and the Jardines concept was a reality, songs were composed and Canada's hottest mother/daughter act was born, yielding a delicious mixture of street smarts and innocence. Their life experiences are meshed together, giving fans an ageless body of work to fall in love with.
They’re not just another band making music; The Jardines are a band that lives to create and play music. It's far more than the vocal blends or the heartfelt songwriting; their core foundation is built on love, respect and belief in their music and each other.
Adding their unique stamp to Cherelle and Ajaye's songs is a pool of talented musicians including Marc Gladstone – keys/vocals (Prism, Doug and the Slugs, Abandon Paris), Michael Flunkert – steel guitars (Shiloh Lindsay), Ricky Francisco –mandolin/vocals/guitar/harmonica/fiddle (Cherelle Jardine, Cam Dempsey, Ruckus) and Jay Wittur – bass/vocals (Doug and the Slugs, Ken McCoy), all putting the icing on the cake.
The first album, "The Jardines", included a cover of Gordon Lightfoot’s “Sundown” which got the attention of Gordon himself. Gordon’s publishing company called Cherelle and told her that Gordon loved the rendition and the cd. He even took it with him on tour. The self titled album was released at their performance for the 2010 Olympic Ozone opening ceremonies in Richmond, BC. Cherelle was chosen as Richmond’s representative for CTV’s “Do you believe” commercials, which were televised across the country 15 plus times a day, promoting the Ozone and the Jardines' performance.
"The Jardines" was well received... “a raw and refined approach with deep rooted emotion by Cherelle’s songs and a pop friendly, innocent youthful spirit with Ajaye's songs” Jimmy Rae (Skope Magazine). A flurry of live shows followed, building a local buzz. That summer The Jardines played at the Merritt Mountain Music Festival along with Aaron Pritchett, Dierks Bentley and Vince Gill.
Recording for the 2nd cd, “Someone’s Stolen Tuesday” was underway in 2011, at the Sound Lounge in Vancouver. Produced by Cherelle and Marc Gladstone, The Jardines crafted a fresh sound that dances between country pop and roots – highlighting the artistry of the songwriting. The band left the alternative musical stylings of "The Jardines" behind and crossed over into the country pop arena with "Someone's Stolen Tuesday".   “SST” tracks were flown to Alberta to have Juno Award winning recording engineer, Sheldon Zaharko from Zed Productions mix the album, which was then mastered by Sensei.
"Someone’s Stolen Tuesday"... was released October 20, 2012.

Cherelle and Ajaye went to Nashville in November 2013 to write with Jane Bach, Lee Ann and Daryl Burgess for their next series of songs. Recording will commence late 2014 in Nashville.

"The 2nd full length album from the mother/daughter songwriting duo Cherelle and Ajaye Jardine sounds like the best elements of classic California rock with some B.C. grit tossed in for good measure. This group should be booked at every country and folk festival next season on the basis of this accomplished release" Stuart Derdeyn (The Province)

Beautiful Sadness

Written By: Cherelle Jardine

I have come here, to say goodbye
As hard as it may seem
We shared a love between us
That has been my reverie
Now the road that led me to you
Will take me quietly home

It’s a beautiful sadness
It’s a beautiful sadness
It’s a beautiful sadness
But it helps me to move on

I've grown tired of this place
It’s time to let it go
What lies ahead I have no fear
I can walk this road alone
Remembering our first kiss
when the fires they burned below

It’s a beautiful sadness
It’s a beautiful sadness
It’s a beautiful sadness
But it helps me to move on

no one’s at fault, there’s no one to blame
yah, the fire, just slowly died
I stand here with honestly and truth
Won’t you share that drink with me tonight

So think of me as I of you
With grace and light and love

It’s a beautiful sadness
It’s a beautiful sadness
It’s a beautiful sadness
That helps me to move on

Torn

Written By: Ajaye Jardine

I'm on the edge now, without a safety tied around my feet
I've had enough now, you've pushed me to this point that I must meet

I'm a million miles from my comfort ground
only my faith in you can I trust now

I'm torn, right now the middle
split, into a decision i can’t make
on and off the table
torn, along my side
ripped into a hundred pieces on the floor

you’ve got me torn

I know your games, trying to get a rise outta me
Thought you won this time without a chance of loss, defeat, defeat
You broke my silence, my peace of mind
In this situation I’ve got to find

I'm torn, right now the middle
split, into a decision i can’t make
on and off the table
torn, along my side
ripped into a hundred pieces on the floor

you got me torn, you got me torn

So long, goodbye, given you my best try
There’s nothing left to say , a little too much too late
No time for rewind, you helped me make up my mind
Even so, don’t know if I can let go
I'm torn, right now the middle
split, into a decision i can’t make
on and off the table
torn, along my side
ripped into a hundred pieces on the floor
You’ve got me torn, you’ve got me torn.

Written By: Cherelle Jardine

We’re good together, in fact, we’re amazing
Bad timing on our side
We bought a ticket on a train to nowhere
Both of us going in eyes open wide

We’re like dropping gasoline on fire
We’re like thunder and lightning

I don’t want to lose this good thing between us
No one’s ever made me feel like this before
I can’t pretend, I don’t want this to end
Why couldn’t we have met 5 years ago

Every word I’ve said to you, baby I’ve meant it
I’m crazy about you, but I’m scared and I’m torn
We’re a train wreck, waiting to happen
See I don’t want to slow down the ride that we’re on
We’re like dropping gasoline on fire
We’re like thunder and lightning and lightning

I don’t want to lose this good thing between us
No one’s ever made me feel like this before
I can’t pretend, I don’t want this to end
Why couldn't we have met 5 years ago

We hang on, like there’s no tomorrow
Spinning out of control
We’ve got one foot on the peddle and one foot on the brake
We’re driving down that road that we know we shouldn’t take

I don’t want to lose this good thing between us
No ones ever made me feel like this before

I can’t pretend, don’t want this to end
Why couldn’t we have met
Please tell me, why couldn’t we have met
Why couldn’t we have met, 5 years ago

Crazy World

Written By: Ajaye Jardine

You call me baby. You call me your world.
Yet you speak words sarcasm, out into the world.
You give me blank stares, pretend you don’t care, when
we both know this is quite the contrary

I remember the first time you held me so close
I never wanted to ever let go.

We may scream and fight until the morning light
everything turns out all right
you’re just a stupid boy, and I’m a love drunk girl
we’re perfect for this crazy world
ooo, this crazy world

I call you my baby, I call you my world
yet I feel like a child, scared to get hurt
I put up these walls to mask my misery
but when I’m with you I should be free

You remember the first time you held me close
we both knew our love was ready to grow
We may scream and fight until the morning light
everything turns out all right
you’re just a stupid boy, and I’m a love drunk girl
we’re perfect for this crazy world
ooo, this crazy world
We may scream and fight until the morning light
everything turns out all right
you’re just a love drunk boy, and I’m a stupid girl
we’re perfect for this crazy world
ooo, ooo

We may scream and fight until the morning light
everything turns out all right
you’re just a love drunk boy, and I’m a stupid girl
we’re perfect for this crazy world
ooo, this crazy world, this crazy world, this crazy world

Someone's stolen Tuesday

Written By: Cherelle Jardine Marc Gladstone

Someone’s stolen Tuesday

I can't hide it, can't deny it, you know it breaks my heart
Our lives so busy, in this city, we’re a million miles apart
We set aside, a piece of time, each week to keep the flame
But the fire slowly dies, when life gets in the way

Someone's stolen Tuesday
We can't get it back
No matter how hard we try, the train's gone off the track
We can kick and scream all we want to
But that won't change a thing
‘Cause someones stolen, someone’s stolen
someone's stolen tuesday

The only day, the week allowed for you and me to hide
Shut out the world, let time stand still, if for a little while

I have no answers, there’s no solutions
We’re pulled apart it seems
With always something on the go
And no way to say no

Someone's stolen Tuesday
We can't get it back
No matter how hard we try, the train's gone off the track
We can kick and scream all we want to
But that won't change a thing
‘Cause someones stolen, someone’s stolen
someone's stolen tuesday

Tuesday, tuesday, I can't get you off my mind

I can't hide it, can't deny it, you know it breaks my heart

Someone's stolen Tuesday
We can't get it back
No matter how hard we try, the train's gone off the track
We can kick and scream all we want to
But that won't change a thing
‘Cause someones stolen, someone’s stolen
someone's stolen tuesday
