Basic cable revolutionized music consumption in the '90s by scoring
teen angst to songs from up-and-coming artists, and promoting these
artists through soundtracks and end-of-episode plugs. We can call this
genre of pop-rock "As Heard On." Innocuous, melodic, kinda dreamy,

but your dentist watches. Your dentist might dig the Jealous
Girlfriends, but so do Filter, The New York Times, those fickle kids

The Jealous Girlfriends is jam packed with ace tunes, all of them insanely melodic, and sporting male/female harmonies to die for. "Something In The Water" is a prime example, hearkening back to the best of the '90's. It's still a mystery to me, how this unsigned band has already managed a song on Showtime's The L-Word and another hugely popular Grey's Anatomy. Do not wirte them off because of that. After hearing any one or several of their smashing songs, you'll be cheering for their deserved ascension. Most notable was Jealous Girlfriends, who look like they’ll be headlining their own shows at the Bowery Ballroom in no time. The Jealous Girlfriends formed in 2004 and have slowly built a momentous pressure, playing shows at venues such as New York City’s Bowery Ballroom and featuring songs on Showtime’s The L Word, ABC's Grey's Anatomy, CBS' CSI Miami, and CBS' Shark. Billboard Magazine discovered this gem of a band in early 2006 and featured them with a write up full of praise. The Jealous Girlfriends were also featured on the cover of the Deli Magazine and most recently on the cover of The L Magazine's 2007 music issue, listed as one of NYC's top 8 bands to check out.
Their latest craft sparkles from every angle—boasting credits from Dave Sitek (TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s) and Dan Long (Kevin Devine, The Fatales). You can hear an inkling of influence from Sonic Youth to Billie Holiday, Blur to Edith Piaf, yet their sound is truly their own. You may not have heard of them yet, but The Jealous girlfriends are sure to become your next favorite band.
