Biography

THE JELLYDOTS began as the brainchild of Guitar Instructor and Singer/Songwriter Doug Snyder. Challenged by the reluctance of his younger students to learn the old standard folk tunes found in popular guitar method books, Snyder began teaching composition and co-writing songs with his kids (some of them were as young as seven). Doug and his pupils started writing the songs in March of 2002, and by October he released "Music is Cool,"a low-budget indie home recording full of songs about his cat, race cars, and cookies.

"Music is Cool" was initially used as a collection of fun guitar duets to teach his students how to play (and sometimes sing and play at the same time even). The songs are arranged on the CD in order of difficulty. A beginning guitar method book based on these songs is in the works. The catchy tunes and positive lyrics on this record began to stick in peoples' heads, CD players, and hearts. Soon, listeners began comparing The Jellydots to Simon and Garfunkel and Elliott Smith. In fact, Eric Shea from Listen.com had this to say about Doug's songs "Warm and earnest vocals sing over the skillful picking of a round-toned acoustic guitar. Snyder's folk music rests in the tradition of the The Graduate's soundtrack."

Doug eventually began performing songs from "Music is Cool" with his students at their recitals. As interest in the songs grew, he assembled an all-star lineup.

Mr. Cookie

CHORUS
Mr. Cookie you are so sweet
You are a thing I like to eat

I was walking down the street
Then I dropped you near my feet
I tried to wash you off in the sink
With dirty dishes, now you stink

CHORUS
Mr. Cookie you are so sweet
You are a thing I like to eat

When I got through washing you
You were a wishy-washy goo
I tried to dry you off in the sun
And then you melted that’s no fun
Mister Cookie it’s time for another one

CHORUS
Mr. Cookie you are so sweet
You are a thing I like to eat

Next time I want to take a bite
I think I’ll sit down and hold on tight
And use both hands when I eat you
A crunchy cookie is better than goo
Mister cookie I’ve learned a lot
From you.

QUITE NATURALLY

Written By: by doug snyder

I've got a voice
Inside of me
Quite naturally
It tells me who to be
Quite naturally
Quite naturally

She's got a voice
Inside of her
Quite naturally
And she knows all the words
Quite naturally
Quite naturally

He's got a voice
Inside of him
Quite naturally
It fills him to the brim
Quite naturally
Quite naturally

You've got a voice
Inside of you
Quite naturally
It tells you what to do
Quite naturally
Quite naturally

Yesterday I saw
An ad on my TV screen
And all the people
On the screen
looked so happy to me
It seemed like they
Were living in a special fantasy
Where money, fun, and
Happiness all grow on plastic trees
What they didn't notice
Was a very simple thing
I turned the TV off
And I began to sing

We've got a voice
Inside of we
Quite naturally
It tells us who to be

Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally
Quite naturally

Moon Lullaby

Written By: by Karla Manzur

10 o'clock and all is well
Are you sleeping baby child?
You're still awake but I won't tell
We'll stay up through the night.

All the world is resting now
Except for me and you
You don't have to go to sleep
If you don't really want to.

CHORUS
Dance, my baby child
To the moon's lullaby
Sing, my baby child
All through the night

Look around and you will see
The beauty of the night
In the darkness you can see
Things you can't see in the light.

We'll stay up till the sunrise
Breaks upon the hills
Then we'll hear the lullaby
The morning birds will sing.

CHORUS
Dance, my baby child
To the moon's lullaby
Sing, my baby child
All through the night

We will finally close our eyes
As the world's awakening
And darkness fades into blue skies
And the day begins.

10 o'clock and all is well
Sleep my baby child.
