"Scenes from the GO! Music Festival"

Speaking of laid back, the lead singer of the Jing Bang show looked pretty at ease taking the stage next. With hands in his pockets, he follows the band’s lead and launched into some good old-fashioned rock. As opposed to Lief Vollebekk, this was just an explosion of sound. Imagine the Tea Party, and that way they had of always sounding bigger in person then they did on the radio. Still, a very cool set of original music and covers; they even did a version of “Wolf Like Me” that would give TV on the Radio a run for their money.

Bio

The origin of the term "JING BANG" is somewhat elusive. But when asked, the boys will mostly agree that it's some archaic celtic term meaning "all encompassing". And while that may sound like an arrogant claim, I get the impression it's equally modest.

Formed in the fall of 2007 in Toronto, Canada by close friends and roommates (O'Donnell, Martin, Ross), The Jing Bang Show's initial focus was simply to write ambitious rock/pop songs. "Coming in with a mutual appreciation for bands like Metric, Arcade Fire, Radiohead and so on, as we did, {pauses} is all fine and well. What makes a good band unique are the various peripheral influences", O'Donnell said in a college radio interview in June 2009. "Through exchanging records by acts like The Police, RJD2, The Roots, Blur, Bruce Springsteen and Mars Volta, the band sharpened its collective instinct as writers and performers. "... its like sharing Information", he continues.
And then there were five. Sills and Flagherty, fellow members of the reputed Toronto band 'Random Task Force', would join The Jing Bang Show in 2008, filling out the sound and relegating O'Donnell to solely a vocalist.

2009 was pivotal for JBS. Having spent the previous year writing, rehearsing, and playing smaller venues, the band's songwriting and live act were beginning to earn them larger opportunities, playing shows regularly in Toronto; Horseshoe Tavern, El Mocambo, Rivoli, Lee's Palace, the MOD Club, the Opera House, as well as festivals such as NXNE, The S.C.E.N.E. music festival (featured act) and The GO! Music Festival.

2009 also saw the release of the Wired EP, which was recorded and produced in both Toronto and Manhattan by Tom McKay and
Mark Plati (David Bowie, Prince), independently released on August 6th 2009. Since has been on regular rotation throughout college and university radio stations such as CKLU, CJIQ, CJLY and most notably CIUT where it charted for 9 weeks, peaking at #1!

2010 will find The Jing Bang Show on tour in support of the Wired EP before heading back into the studio to record their forthcoming full length debut album in September.
