"I hesitate to single out a single musician in this trio, they all fill their role perfectly, but Brent stands out as the virtuoso of the group... There has probably never been a mandolin player with better technical skills, and he matches that with an enthusiasm for every imaginable role a mandoline can fulfill..." - http://knol.google.com

Bio
Joe Brent is one of the foremost mandolinists, regardless of genre, in the United States today. "There has probably never been a mandolin player with better technical skills," critics say, "and he matches that with an enthusiasm for every imaginable role a mandolin can fulfill."
A current faculty member at Mannes College The New School For Music in New York, Brent began the Quartet in 2009 as a creative outlet from his many other projects, which range from jazz ensembles to classical chamber and symphony orchestras to Broadway pits and internationally renowned rock and pop performers. Combining his love of ensemble writing with the instrumental virtuosity of his bandmates Hideaki Aomori (Duncan Sheik, Sufjan Stevens), Nadav Lev (The Prototip Trio), and Shawn Conley (The Knights), the music of the Joe Brent Quartet reflects the eclectic range of influences Brent has accumulated throughout his career. Along with Brent's own angular original compositions for the ensemble, audiences are likely to hear Piazzolla suites followed by covers of Warren Zevon and Regina Spektor songs, and even the occasional straight-ahead jazz improv, all wrapped in an energetic live performance.
