The John Dobry Group

John Dobry moved to New Orleans in August of 2001, and quickly established himself as a player, composer, and instructor around the city. Playing mostly Jazz and Rock gigs, John is known for being a versatile guitarist, comfortable and exciting in any situation. John took a break from playing to focus on composing, arranging, and Teaching. Now John is back with a brand new project: The John Dobry Group.
The John Dobry Group, crafted with almost all original Jazz/Rock/Funk tunes and some Jazz Standards, is John’s newest project. We look for the opportunity to play music with a more modern sound, while still striving to honor the giants that came before us.
The mixture these musicians have of traditional and modern, refined and edgy, standards and new, make the John Dobry Group an exiting band for the future. The Group is also joined by guest artists to further expand the sound.
We look to bring high intensity jazz/improvisational music to the club stage, where it belongs. We focus on shorter songs with different sections for different soloists. The compositions are of the Modern vain, intricate parts and sections that take the listener to different places and themes, without losing sight of making the crowd want to get up and dance.
