Bio
The John Steel Singers are an experimental pop six-piece and one of Brisbane’s most prominent acts from the past 3 years. After recently releasing their debut album, ‘Tangalooma’ (Dew Process / UMA); produced by The Go Betweens’ Robert Forster and mixed in New York by Nicholas Vernhes (Animal collective, Deerhunter), there has been an outstanding response from reviewers and fans alike. This is reflected in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2010, where lead single ‘Overpass’ came in at number 52. Their catchy blend of pop has seen them become firm triple j favourites, with the station awarding them the Unearthed J Award for best newcomer of the year in 2008. Since then, they have had great success with singles ‘Strawberry Wine’, ‘Rainbow Kraut’ and ‘Evolution’. They won the Q Song Award for Best Pop Song, two years in a row. In 2009, the group toured the UK and showcased at The Great Escape festival.
