Bio

In the winter of 2009, longtime Detroit Indie Rock Musician friends Ron McPherson , Eric Freeman and J.T. Lee decided to start a new project band. Not just any band, mind you. The idea was to be a band that would make song selection and original arrangements the key to their style and not only play their own songs, but also great music from the 60's, 70’s, 80's, & 90's to the present and have fun doing their own versions and arrangements of the songs to keep the spirit of originality flowing in their music. In other words - an 'Original' Cover Band!

However, they still needed one more member, the elusive female bassist, and so a craiglist ad was dispatched...

24 hours later, in Ferndale Michigan, an unemployed bass player was unable to sleep and decided to answer a random ad on craigslist. Fortunately, sleep deprivation had not hindered Raquel Salaysay’s emailing skills and she was able to convince the fellas to set up an audition. And so in January 2010, after a very satisfying jam on an original arrangement of Sympathy for the Devil, The Joint Chiefs of Detroit were complete.

Individually, all members have been actively playing in the Detroit indie rock scene for many years in various bands of many flavors from hard rock to gospel, with a little punk, blues, power pop, and worldbeat thrown in for good measure. They have also toured, played to stadium crowds in the United States and Europe, are currently members of other well known Detroit indie bands, won Detroit Music Awards, and opened for the likes of The Alarm, Morphine, and others.

This band loves playing live, and their shows reflect it. A Joint Chiefs of Detroit show is a Rock and Roll House Party where the band is playing a great mix of rock, power pop, funk, punk, soul, and blues covers as well as Joint Chiefs original songs while the partygoers dance the night away. The band's energy and creativity flow with the crowd and spur of the moment instrumental jams keep the audience involved and the dancers on their feet. The band's following and reputation for a great live show continue to grow with each performance.

In the Metro Detroit Area, The Joint Chiefs of Detroit regularly perform at: Silky’s Martini & Music Lounge in Dearborn, The Post Bar in Dearborn, Cheli’s Chili Bar in Dearborn, The New Place Lounge in Dearborn, Trapper's Patio - Greektown Casino, Shotz Sports Bar - Greektown, Mezza Mediterranean Grille in Novi, The Travelling Fork / Livonia Radisson in Livonia, Burroughs Tavern in Brighton, Mario’s of Troy, Goodnight Gracie in Royal Oak, The Pier 500 in Wyandotte, J Dub’s in Riverview, Moose McGregor’s in Brownstown, Buster’s Place in Trenton and The Shore’s Inn in St. Clair Shores to name a few. In addition, the band has performed to great crowd responses at large music festivals such as Stars & Stripes Festival, Arts Beats & Eats, Detroit River Days, The Bluewater Fest in Port Huron, Campus Martius in Detroit, and numerous outdoor rally events in the area.
