"The Downloader UK"

Purveyors of a fluorescent brand of US power pop, The Jolenes are an all-female trio with a splendid appetite for playful lyrics, kaleidoscopic pop hooks and glistening pre-school rhythms. Named after Dolly Parton's seminal hussy-baiting choon, The Jolenes are a delightful hybrid of American sass, pouting lips and firecracker onstage chemistry that sends everyone - man or woman - weak at the knees. - The Downloader UK

"Willamette Week"

When a highly laughable press photo came in today for the group Three Days Grace, the guys all equipped with "rocker" haircuts, stern eyes and unpleasant frowns, a co-worker commented, "When are bands going to learn to stop taking themselves so seriously?" Tonight's show is the answer to that question. The highly un-PC yet completely loveable Punk Group and infectious cuties the Jolenes are both celebrating the release of new albums. Riot grrrls may or may not rock out to Punk Group ditties like "Sleater-Kinney Sucks" while the Jolenes satisfy the audience's sweet tooth with tasty treats like the new album's opening track, "Ice Cream." So leave your worries and woes at home, and come on, get happy. DEVAN COOK.
Dante's. 9:30 pm. $5 advance, $6 day of show. 21+. - Willamette Week

Bio

They formed a band.
They released their debut "Rinse and Repeat" and spent the next 6 months teaching the world about stalkers, landlords, and superheroes. But people change, and the Jolenes (Katy Sanford, Christina Wolfe, and Candy Blystone) are no different. Gone are the carefree tales of Diaries and Apple Pectin shampoo, and now on their newest release Get it to Go (due out June '06) they tackle such pressing subjects as skirt length, ice cream, and some bitch named Frenchie. With nods to Shonen Knife, Josie and the Pussycats, and the movie Clueless, Portland's reigning pop tarts make the type of music that makes Mary Tyler Moore wanna throw her hat in the air.
