Bio

These days there are so many options for good music through different venues, radio and the Internet. Keeping track of these artists is almost impossible, unless they are ones that really stand out and are fresh and original. The Josh Davis Band is one of those.

The Josh Davis Band is a roots/rock type of band with no unnecessary frills. The music has the comfort and good times of country with the soul kicking beat of rock n' roll.

"I'm from a small town. I write about stuff that happens to me and to people I've known. You are all my muse..." says front man and songwriter Josh Davis. Thanks to his parents, Josh grew up with Willie Nelson pickin' in one ear and Frank Sinatra crooning in the other. His influences haven’t strayed to far from his childhood offerings. He draws on well-known singer/ songwriters such as Ryan Adams, Charlie Robison, Jack Ingram, Todd Snider, The Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox Twenty, The Gin Blossoms and Noel Gallagher (Oasis). Now, all grown up, he's been playing the singer/songwriter gig for the past five years. In that time, he's had the opportunity to write and play with some of the Midwest’s most talented musicians.

In addition, he has had the opportunity to share the stage with the likes of Dwight Yoakam, Dexter Freebish, The Great Divide, Joe Nichols, and his idol Charlie Robison. He even has the scars to prove it. "Charlie and I were having a drink at the bar and he put his cigarette out on my arm," Josh laughs. "We were comparing tattoos and scars and he was nice enough to give me one for free!" In the words of the great Steve Earle, the band is a “Hardcore Troubadour”; they tour through out the Midwest to the Rocky Mountains and even across the South, including a South by Southwest play. With this schedule, it is evidenent he has learned how to rock it, and he insures that everyone is invited to the party.

In 2004, Authentic Records took an interest in Josh's writing. "We saw something special in Josh. He is smart, clever, and extremely prolific," said Jason Walsmith, co-founder of Authentic Records. In the spring of 2005 Josh accepted an offer from Authentic Records. Josh explains, "Authentic is like a big rock n' roll family. The guys from all the bands are like brothers." With the label behind him, Josh and band, consisting of Paul Hart (lead guitar), Brian Totten (drums), and Dustin Baird (bass), went to work on the newest offering.

"The White Whale" is eleven tracks of country-tinged rock at its finest. The album features "December," the up-tempo lead-off track about love, loss, and longing. "Don't Follow" is a quiet, haunting ballad that calls to mind a young Ryan Adams. The band gets a chance to stretch its musical legs on the intense and pounding "Sweet Jo". "The White Whale" is an eye-opening debut album from Josh Davis. Look forward to this record and many others to come in this young artist's long career.
