The Juice Box

The Juice Box is dripping with Bluegrass, Old-Time, Funk, Rock, and Eclectronica. The trio writes their original music as an acoustic string band, but utilizes many elements in their live performances including FXs, synths, and samples. They pride themselves on never playing the same set twice and improvise throughout their performances.

Alex Roth and Josh Rapelje have been playing music together for ten years. The two friends have experimented with many genres including rock, folk, hip hop, and jazz. In 2008 they started to play traditional bluegrass tunes, with Alex on mandolin and Josh on acoustic guitar. In 2010 they played their first show as The Juice Box.

In the spring of 2011, they joined up with their bass player, Jeff LaGrassa. Jeff’s eclectic style influenced the band to expand their sound to combine funk and electronic elements with their bluegrass roots.

Together, the trio experiments with the high lonesome sound that has been a part of American music for more than 100 years, while incorporating elements of modern music. The trio has been playing bars, clubs, and festivals throughout the Northeast over the past year. Their camaraderie and eclectic musical evolution can be heard in their dynamic melodies, harmonic vocals, high-speed breaks, and of course their foot stomping dance music.
