April 15th 2010

"Spring is here and the temperature is rising. Andrew Barker is here to give you that fever you’ve been craving as you’ve wanted all winter long. No this ain’t no spring fever this is the blam blam fever. Full of heavy basslines, scorching horn lines and all of that sweet reggae music you love. Andrew also sits down with New York guitarist Justin Rothberg. Justin has played with King Django, Matisyahu, and Eastern Standard Time. We talk about his experiences and share stories. So sit back and relax as I drop the pressure on you."

The Justin Rothberg trio plays original instrumental jazz/funk/world music. Taking inspiration from a variety of different styles, the trio's focus is always on the composition.

"We try to explore a variety of different styles of music. While the trio is firmly dedicated to jazz, we try to stay as open minded as possible. Songs are influenced by hiphop, funk, dub reggae, Latin, world music, and anything else the band has been listening to. To keep the music from sounding stiff, everyone tries to trust each other's musical taste. Even though I write all of the tunes, it's still a very open vibe on stage. No matter what song the band is playing, we're always open to experimentation."

The trio is consists of:
Justin Rothberg - guitars. Gil Smuskowitz - bass. Matsu - Drums

Recently the group has added Andy Oniel on Percussion to thicken up the groove of the band allowing more rhythmic structure for the soloist to improvise off.

The Justin Rothberg Trio has been playing in the New York City area for the past 5yrs consistently building a solid fan base with continued success at many famous venues.
Some noted past performances include:

The Corneliia st cafe NYC
Fat Cat Jazz Club NYC
The Knitting Factory (closing night party of the old location)
The Asbury Park Jazz Festival
