Biography

The album "No Lullaby" began as a collection of works written over the course of a decade, each song a chapter of a story. There came a time when this story had to be told and that was the beginning.

Coming from a background without money or influence, we decided the only way we could tell this story properly, was for us to do it ourselves.

We spent two years recording our album in a home built studio (garage) with very basic equipment, a dodgy computer and a "Pro Tools for Dummies" manual. Every waking moment was spent intensively working to create an album which would stand up to the best in the industry. We were not on a level playing field, at times it felt like anything that could go wrong did. But in the words of Curtis Mayfield "You've got to keep on keepin' on...", and this we did.

We took the decision that a story should have a book and so we created one. We wanted the book to enhance the listening experience and visually tell the story. The artwork was originally sketched at the kitchen table and after months of sleepless nights, millions of cups of coffee, and many disagreements we finally had a result.

The result is a new and different experience in the musical world. Combining captivating music, thought provoking lyrics and powerful imagery "No Lullaby" will change the way you listen to music...

Although her core instrument is acoustic guitar, Karen's music is very different from that of most acoustic artists. Her strong guitar style has an edge that compliments the power of her mesmerizing vocalsa and strong lyrics. Together with her band they have taken influences from the likes of Ani Difranco, Led Zepplin, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Pearl Jam and many more and have created a new and interesting fusion of sound that is very distinctive. Their use of 2 female vocals is amazing, harmonising in a strong distinctive style that is quite unique indeed.

Their live performance will draw you in and keep you on the edge of your seat.

Lyrics

No Lullaby

Written By: Karen Hegarty, Andrew Mernagh

She’s watching a sleeping dog while pulling thorns out from her tongue, waiting for the eye to strike.
She’s pulling a silken punch and her eyes scarred from your ignorance.
This ain’t no lullaby.
She moves across the floor her body stretched out for more and she’s not gonna win this fight.
Her lips shake to resist the taste of your weat on her hips and this doesn’t feel right.

She’s screaming out;
She’s fighting hard to regain her doubt.
Behind these eyes she says goodbye.

She’s hanging up her shoes with nothing gained, nothing left to lose.
She’s gonna play tonight.
Her back is up against the wall.
She stands in fear but she stands tall.
Taller than you can strike.

She waits to make her move and she knows it’s her or you who, who will get to the other side?
She’s riding with both hands and she’s leaving not by your command.
She’s not gonna bleed tonight.

She’s screaming out.
She’s fighting hard to regain her doubt behind these eyes
she says goodbye.

She’s watching a sleeping dog while pulling thorns out from her tongue.
Waiting for the eye to strike.
She’s pulling a silken punch and her eyes scarred from your ignorance.
This ain’t no lullaby.

You do it to me

Written By: Karen Hegarty, Andrew Mernagh

Now I’m crawling on the floor cut my knees. Took the smile right from my pretty face, left me screaming, Left me hanging from the rafters of your greed. Now I’m back to this, I’m running from me.

All my cards have fallen down, can’t pick them up. My cards have fallen down. Because you do it to me. Yeah! You do it to me.

Take those bruises and place them where I can see. Because you said I looked better on my knees.Yeah! You rejected what I thought love could be. Now I’m back to this, I’m running from me.

All my cards have fallen down, can’t pick them up.
My cards have fallen down. Because you do it to me. Yeah! You do it to me. You do it to me.

Show called life

Written By: Karen Hegarty, Andrew Mernagh

If you listen hard you can hear the sound
of her broken heart as it hits the ground.
Shatters pieces all accross the floor
as she hears the key in the front door.

He’s back to play the antichrist and she’s back to play his doting wife.
In a show called life.
She’s fallen over again. She’s fallen over again.
She tells the story the same of how he’s gonna change and how everything is fine.
She’s fallen over.

Back behind closed doors she’s tending to the chore of hiding all the bruises she’s earned tonight.
Drowning in self pride, she swims against the tide, on this little raft of denial.
He’s back to play the antichrist and she’s back to play his doting wife.
In a show called life.

She’s fallen over again. She’s fallen over again.
She tells the story again of how he’s gonna change and how everything is fine.
She’s fallen over.
