Bio

Named as a joke between friends and maybe a slight nod to an interesting and captivating man, The Karl Marx Band was formed in 2001. The members of the band all originate from the greater San Diego area. They have all been in numerous bands and played with many amazing musicians before all being brought together by Richard Aguirre, who is the cousin of singer/songwriter Gary Jules. The band is enjoyably comparable to Widespread Panic or Allman Brother's and have a great San Diego following. No matter the show size or location, this band shows up ready to play great tunes and get the crowd moving. The live show is a fun mix of quality jams while surf movies play in the background and Casablanca or another classic film projects off one of the amps. KMB would rather you dance the night away than pay attention to them on stage. They are ready to take the fun on the road and bring some Beach Funk to the rest of the country.

The Karl Marx Band are heavily influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, The Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, and The Grateful Dead. The band also finds inspiration from the surf, beach, and political culture of their home neighborhood of Ocean Beach, California.

KMB has played some great venues in the past, including The Melkweg in Amsterdam and Whiskey A Go-Go in West Hollywood, CA. They currently have regular gigs at Humphrey's Backstage, playing an after party show for Joe Cocker in June, with Gregg Allman and Bob Weir still to go this summer.
