That Room

Written By: Sheryl Thirlwall

Twin beds and an old record player
Pink and blue carousels on the wall
You and me we were always together
In our room at the end of the hall
Telling stories under the covers
Dancing for an invisible crowd
Turtle races
Hiding places
We got the Beatles turned up loud turned up loud

We made our own world in that room
Two little girls in their mom's high heels and perfume
A special time an ordinary place
You showed me how to laugh
I taught you how to keep a straight face
I didn't want to grow up and leave that room

Daddy kept the home fires burning
Mom on the road with a traveling show
Summer came he would take us to join her
You and me sitting in the front row
Long trips in the old station wagon
Childhood snapshots held in my heart
Hamster cages
Concert stages
Playing in our room was still the best part the best part

We made our own world in that room
Two little girls in their mom's high heels and perfume
A special time an ordinary place
You showed me how to laugh
I taught you how to keep a straight face
I didn't want to grow up and leave that room

I look back and realize a room is just a place
Memories behind these eyes can never be erased
Sisters can grow apart and move so far away
Here you are right next to me as we watch our own girls play
We made our own world in that room
Two little girls in their mom's high heels and perfume
A special time an ordinary place
You show me how to laugh
I taught you how to keep a straight face
End

Can't Believe My Luck

Written By: Sheryl Keller for the Keller Sisters

He was coming through town a couple times a month
Selling liquor to the bars on the waterfront
Real sweet and charming so we started up
Can't believe my luck
Let him stay at my place he settled right in
Painted pretty pictures of our future and then
A knock on the door changes everything
Can't believe my luck Can't believe my luck
Am I unlucky in love or maybe just blind
How wrong could I be
I got one thing right he is the marrying kind
Oh I think you'll agree
The devils in the details he left out a few
A wife and kid in Reno
Oh I'm not through
Two angry exes trying to get their due
Can't believe my luck Can't believe my luck
We all have baggage I realize
He's got a steamer trunk
I'd like to lock him up in it throw away the key
Right along with the rest of his junk
My female intuition passed out for a while
Woke up on the floor
I'm thinking my luck has come back around
I could have been number four !
Can't believe my Luck
Can't believe my Luck
Can't believe my Luck
Can't believe my Luck..
End

Ballad of Varla Jean

Written By: Sheryl Thirlwall

Ballad of Varla Jean
This fallen angel is now in my hands
Came out west to the land of gold
Buried her family on the California trail
Just 12 years old
Wagons left her in El Dorado
Upstairs ladies took her in
Gave her a room with a bed and a window
Watched her childhood end

Varla Jean let your hoopskirt down
Only one way out of this godless town
Silver shines in the oil lamp light
You’re hanging on with whiskey and the pipe

Drunken miners, lying gamblers like ghosts they just appear
Saying they love her and will take her away
She always wakes up here
Blue eyed farm boy looking for adventure
Vows to make her his bride
Caught holding aces, shot at the table
I have him on the other side

Varla Jean let your hoopskirt down
Only one way out of this godless town
Silver shines by the oil lamp light
You're hanging on with whiskey and the pipe

Remembers stories her mother told her
Wooden ships out on the sea
Watching shadows sail across the ceiling
Dreams of floating free
Stumbles barefoot to the river
Yellow moon shows her the way
Water embraces delivers
Her soul by light of day

Varla Jean in your silk nightgown
Your coming home your glory bound
On Summer Hill in a box of pine
You were never their’s you were always mine

Las Vegas

Written By: Sheryl Thirlwall

That waitress is the devil in drag
With her tray of Rum and coke
Free drinks all night at the roulette table
I’m drunk and nearly broke
Agreed to meet you in the Keno bar
My heart still on the mend
You slipped out the back with a woman in black
Here we go again

The wheel spins round and round
Las Vegas I’m going down
Oh, when will I ever learn
A leopard won’t change his spots
I tried to chase my blues away
More liquor and the nickel slots
Angry at myself God I’m so naive
Gonna fight fire with fire
It’s not my style but I’m not myself
This angel just left the choir
My head spins round and round
Las Vegas I’m goin down
Bridge
I need a clean slate
A slow pace
Am I too late
To find a little grace

Now I’m losing it all in a gold bathroom
With a man I barely know
Smells like lust and cheap perfume
no cards left to show…
dropped my shoes running for the bus
I will not break my stride
Leave you in the desert dust
Kiss this town goodbye
The wheels turn round and round
Las Vegas you’re goin down
down, down .....
End

Jenny's Kitchen

Written By: Sheryl Thirlwall for The Keller Sisters,Jenn

Follow the morning glory down the crooked path
I’m here for one more story it’s got to last
She’s going away won’t say when she’ll be back
We met in ’81 a bar on Baker Street
I was alone she motioned come sit by me
Pulled up her shirt flashed a rose tattoo

I’m in Jenny’s kitchen filled with memories
Jenny’s kitchen she’s making ginger tea
Jenny’s kitchen well it feels like home to me home to me

She handed out adventures like candy on a a tray
Her beat up Riviera would have a lot to say
Cactus sunsets throwing whiskey on the fire

Jenny’s kitchen filled with memories
Jenny’s kitchen drinking ginger tea
Jenny’s kitchen well, it feels like home to me home to me

Lovers come and go
Friendship carved in stone
We fight, we laugh always find my way back

Jenny’s kitchen filled with memories
Jenny’s kitchen tell me where else would I be
Jenny's kitchen well it feels like home to me home to me

Now she's met another man from out of town
swears it's love this time plans to settle down
I look in her eyes we both know how this will end

Jenny's kitchen Ohhhhhh yeah yeah yeah yeah
Jenny's kitchen yeah ...
Oooh oooh ooh ooh

House of Cards

Written By: Sheryl Thirlwall for The Keller Sisters

Alone in the corner too weak to stand
You’re ringing the bell I’ve got your key in my hand
Rain on the window playing a tune
You call out my name on this dark afternoon
You pound on the door I can’t move from the floor
My head tucked inside of my knees

We built this house of cards on a battle ground
We live in this house of cards one breath it all comes tumbling down

Picture less frames hang on these walls No talk of blame no talking at all
Cannot turn back the damage is done
Scars from the past we couldn’t outrun
You’re driving away no words left to say
We both know that this is the end

We built this house of cards on a battle ground
We live in this house of cards one breath it all comes tumbling down it all comes tumbling down it all comes tumbling

Down I fall stumbling broken … I’ll carry on… with eyes wide open
We built this house of cards … on a battle ground
We live in this house of cards one breath … it all came tumbling down ..
It all came tumbling down
It all came tumbling down …
This house of cards …
