Bio
Ken Myers has been recording electronic music since 1990, and is visible in many online
independent artist music circles. His music has been described as an aural tapestry of
exotic soundscapes, and is designed for relaxation and stress reduction. His use of
electronic sound textures and acoustic orchestral instruments and loops makes his music
right at home for film soundtrack and other visual arts.
An earlier producer of R&B tunes, smooth jazz pieces and cinematic orchestral works,
Ken's versatility shows in his compositions. Using light percussion as a backdrop, his
careful layering of sound sources define his style as 'ambient new age', or as he prefers to
call it 'musical soundscapes'. Whatever it is called his works have been referred to as both
refreshing and bold.
Ken Myers was born in 1952, Cleveland,Ohio. His love of music came about when as a child
he would listen intently to the radio broadcasts of the time. That included everything from
Perry Como, to early rock n roll favorites Fats Domino and Chuck Berry. He would listen to
his father's old 78 phonograph record collection with mostly Boogie Woogie, swing, and early
rock n roll.
Ken's appetite for music didn't stop there. As he grew into his late teens he appreciated
the sounds of classical music radio along with the sounds of that era, Motown, the
Beatles, and the Memphis sound. By the time electronic music emerged with Tangerine Dream and
other notables Ken was hooked.
Self taught, Ken started composing his own music in 1986 with the help of a Casio 5000
synthesizer he purchased from a music store. It featured multi-timbral capabilities (16
notes at a time), and the ability to load new synth sounds. This expanded his horizons for
developing interesting melodic soundscapes. Ken's early music listening experience helped
him in choosing the right combinations of synth voices to use in his compositions, a factor
in trying to shape just the right tone structures for his projects. He went beyond 'midi'
orchestration and began studying the different nuances of orchestral instruments and is
currently studying musical counterpoint.
Ken's early audience consisted of his friends and family who urged him to produce music
for the public. His first self-produced new age cassette album was released in Cleveland in
1990 entitled "Deep Visions". It received college radio airplay ( which seemed to be the main
market for new age music at the time ), as well as favorable reviews from the local Scene
magazines. A dj from Case Western Reserve University was quoted in the university press, 'The Observer' calling Myers 'one of the most original new artists to come from that region in quite some time'.
That is still true, as the new release "A Quiet Passion" will attest to. Since 1990, and
after studying and producing other styles of music, Ken Myers is back to the form of music
that he loves. Freedom to express music without boundaries.
In late 2005, Ken Myers almost lose his life to colon cancer, and 2006 brought about his battle against this dreadful disease through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Now 'cancer-free', Ken has been recording what he hopes to be 'meaningful, stress-free works', much like the music he listened to during his recovery.
"Music is a healing force," He says, " And along with the grace of God, I am a living example of what it can achieve."
