Bio
Ken Yoshioka is a well established and highly respected Toronto based harp & guitar player, vocalist and songwriter with a vast knowledge and intense love of the blues. Major influences include Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson I & II, Lightning Hopkins and Big Walter Horton. He grew up in Japan, and moved to Toronto in 1994 where he became immersed in the local music scene.
Ken's debut CD release, "I Love Harp" was a classic study in authentic country and big city blues... almost defying the fact that all the cuts are original Yoshioka compositions. In 2006 a documentary movie about him, "Harmonica Man from Japan" was produced by Eiko Watanabe.
Ken's versatility has earned him "first call" status for a variety of blues, rock, pop, country and Celtic artists around Toronto, both for club dates and recording. Ken is currently on a November tour of Japan and will be continuing work on his new CD release when he returns to Canada.
The Ken Yoshioka Blues Band's style can be summed up as progressive, high energy blues....with a twist.
