"Cincinnati's Kevin Fox Band Showcased Original Acoustic Roots Rock at Square One"

By Rick grant www.Rickatnight.com
Through a connection to one of Square Ones partners, KEVIN FOX and his trio traveled down from Cincinnati,Ohio to play last Friday and Saturday nights at Square One in San Marco. Of course, I was there Friday night to check out this fresh talent from another state. The KEVIN FOX BAND turned out to be a refreshing and taut acoustic rock trio which played mostly original material off Fox's two CD's. Kevin Fox "The World in My Head" and "Somewhere's Waiting". This tight trio delivered Kevin's original material with consummate professionalism. Kevin's material falls into a pop-rock category of well written lyrics against hooky melodies.
It took the upscale audience about half the band"s first set to warm up to this out-of-town band, but finally the young well dressed women were gyrating their hips to the beat-- A sure sign that KFB's music was getting through the din.
Before the end of KFB's first set, the dance floor was full. This boded well for KFB since the band was playing all original material. The trick is Kevin's material makes sense and showcases catchy changes that draw the listener into Kevin's lyrical imagery.   For me, it was an exciting change to view this band from Cincinnati, Ohio. Our local bands need to get out of town more often. Most of them are over-exposed. Perhaps a cultural exchange could be arranged between Jacksonville and Cincinnati. Just a thought. Musicians just get too darn comfortable staying in town. Before long Jaxite's take them for granted. the real music biz is mobile- always on the road. - Rick At Night Jacksonville Fla.

"Rhythm in the City-Acoustic pop sound draws attention for Kevin Fox"

By Alisha Woolery
Singer songwriter Kevin Fox was 15 when he played his first gig at Golden Rooster's happy hour.<br>"They didn't know how old I was. My mom had to drop me off." Fox recalls
Fox, who had been playing in cover bands in South Carolina for several years, decided to move back to Cincinnati after the birth of his daughter three years ago. At the time Fox was also working with Cincinnati singer-songwriter Jason Phelps of Pay The Girl, writing songs and playing bass in his band. While Fox is no longer in Phelp's band, that partnership continued, and Fox co-wrote the first release off Pay the Girl's record, "Freeze" with TVT Records in December.
His latest CD has also gamered Fox local attention, with Cammy Award nominations in the Best Roots Rock Band and Best Songwriter categories. (see the Cammy nominations)Fox who spent about ten years in cover bands was apprehensive about switching to all original music.
"Ive done 100 percent original over the past year and i'm still making a living at it. It scared me at first, some of the bar owners weren't behind it, but the crowd is still coming out and letting me do what I want.
"It inspires me to have other guys in the band who believe in the same music. They believe in what we're doing." Fox said. - The Cincinnati Enquirer 2/27/2003

"MPMF Thursday September 25 2003"

By Larry Nager
With 200 acts spread over 15 stages, MidPoint Music Festival is a whole lot of rock, R&B, americana, hip hop and dance music.
But every showcase has its "buzz bands." the acts people are already talking about. These groups are the ones most likely to draw more than their share of industry attention.
Here's a look at tonight's MidPoint must-sees:KEVIN FOX BAND: Fox is best known for his work behind the scenes as a songwriter for Pay the Girl, among others, but he's not shy, Put him onstage and this guy knows how to rock a crowd. (10 p.m. ; Mr. Pitifuls - The Cincinnati Enquirer

Some of the most tasty entrees at the musical feast included, a five peice original rock band from Chicago who opened Thursday evening at Mr. Pitifuls to a large and appreciative audience. Other notable shows Thursday included local act The KEVIN FOX BAND, as well as solo sets at Kaldi's from the Ass pony's, Chuck cleaver and Crosley's Will Jacobs - ArtSpike magazine

"Dueling blues this Weekend"

By Rick Bird
Fox Flies: Veteran local guitarist Kevin Fox has released a cleverly written CD "The World in My Head" that showcases his songwriting and guitar talents. Fox is a veteran of several local groups incuding the Einsteins, Shannara, and the Jason Allen Phelps Band.
Fox's solo CD features an allstar cast with such players as CC Thomas, Brian Lovely, Ricky Nye, Eddie Cunningham and Phelps.
Fox's whitty whimsical songwriting is what makes this disc shine. His unpretentious approach to music obviously went down well with the the guest musicians who sparkle as well. - The Cincinnati post

"Opening for YES at Riverbend Cincinnati"

I Have to mention the opening act of Jason Allen Phelps and Kevin Fox because they were impressive. Two acoustic guitars, two voices blending very well together----Their own songs such as "Before I Was Famous", "Freedom", and "I'm the Man" reminded me of Springsteen, Bon Jovi, John Melloncamp, and Bryan adams all mixed together. Kevin Fox's guitar solo on "freedom" (I think) was actually the best of the entire evening as far as speed (digital agility), and clarity. He even used a wah pedal on an acoustic guitar played beyond the frets. Very cool surprise. Great to hear and see some of Cincinnati's own local talent and they rocked for 40 minutes, did a great job warming up the fans for YES.

Bio

The Kevin Fox band is pop, roots rock. Winners of two Cincinnati music awards "Songwriter of the Year" and "Best Roots Rock band". In 2005 and 2006 we covered most of the east side of the country from Jacksonville, Florida, to Madison, Wisconsin, to New York, NY. What set's us apart from most bands is our combination of catchy lyrics, interesting music, and the ability to Jam when it's necessary. Our influences vary all the way from James Taylor to Van Halen to Dave Mathews to Nirvana and back again. We've been compared to bands like Bare Naked Ladies, John Mayer and Santana. It's usually the catchy Refrains combined with insightful verses and a sense of humor that earn us our fans. In 2005 we were invited to three major music conferences MPMF of Cincinnati, MECA in Chicago and MEIC in Louisville KY. We played the Motor City Music Conference in Detroit, the MECA in Chicago and the Midpoint Music Festival in Cincinnati. We've recently opened shows for Tracy Byrd, Anthony Campbell, and Sister Hazel. Our latest CD is "all Over the Place"
