"The Key-Lites at Brutopia"

The Key Lites performing at Brutopia on January 21st, 2012. They performed a great set and really got the bar grooving. “It was my third Key Lites show and they’re never a disappointment,” says photo submitter Alexandra Hubert. “Really, it’s a soulful blast!” Couldn’t agree more. - The Main (Montreal)

Bio

The Key-Lites have been electrifying the stage since 2011, filling the dance floor with their killer combo of bass, drums, guitar, sax, soulful vocals and an irresistible backbeat. While they fit into the soul revivalist movement popularized by Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley, their originals blend Blues and Pop influences from Amy Winehouse to The Roots.

The players are all well-seasoned, but it’s their love of Soul music and making people feel good that brought them together. Bassist Joel Kerr stretches creatively with his other groups, playing Jazz, Rock and everything with a low end, but with The Key-Lites he's real cool, leaving no hip unshaken. Crushing the two and four behind the kit is David Payant, making the dancers kick off their shoes. Multi-instrumentalist Simon Nakonechny takes it over the top on keys and sax; Simon’s taste and tone, combined with years on the R&B blues circuit make him the butter on the bread. Fronting the band, with vocals that go from driving grit to aching falsetto, is singer and guitar sensation Josh Toal. Riding the ferocious groove laid down by the others, Josh makes the audience beg, scream and shout.

Everywhere the Key-Lites play, you can feel the love. They are currently working on making that feeling last; their first album is due out in 2014.
