"New Hip Hop Music: The Killbots"

You can’t find good new hip-hop on the radio nowadays. Best place to go is the underground, where mixtapes and freestyle reign supreme. Straight out of the underground come The Killbots, slaying the opposition with their tight beats and dirty flow.

The Killbots are a three-piece set with flow for days. Each emcee tries to out-do the other on every track, stepping up their game, busting out new rhymes and changing up their stylo. This makes for some sick tracks that mimic the freestyle rap that the underground scene is so famous for.

The Killbots dropped a FREE mixtape called “Say Hello to the Killbots” last year. Download it, because The Killbots are coming for you. Here’s a track from that mixtape: “Hassassins”. - Dave

"Rappers In The Making: The Killbots"

Part of the mission of Wyteboy.com is to promote rappers in the making, and since one of the main ideas of our concept is to firmly state that rap and hip hop has NO COLOR (Eminem, Yelawolf, Paul Wall, Mac Miller, Chris Webby, and we could keep going on; are evidence of it), then we specially also support white rappers in the making.

We are open to new music, new artists, and anyone who believes in the Wyte Boy movement is welcome to become part of the Wyte Crew. Just Email us.

Today, we do our first post on our new “Rappers in tha Making” category, and this time it goes to a group called The Killbots who we met through their Twitter @JPrhyme.

These guys are from L.A., their group is composed by Juco, Man E Faces and JPrhyme. They have a free mixtape coming out by the end of the year.

The following song, which has a similar up tempo beat like Eminem’s and Yelawolf’s, “Filter My Blood” was made by Man E Faces and “He bring a message to all the weak 4ss wannabe rapers as he takes you on a trip through Los Angeles, California.” (YouTube description) The video is directed and edited by Matias Letelier.

You Wyte Boys be the judge. Shoutouts to the Killbots. - WyteBoy

"Artists 2 Watch"

The Effect
www.sonicbids.com/JPrhyme
Skope: How did you react after you were selected for A2W?
The Effect: It makes me happy to get support, especially with our album coming out in June or July. Anything to spread the word of good music excites me
Skope: What are you currently promoting the most via an album, tour, single etc?
The Effect: Definitely the album. It’s going to be under the group ‘The Effect’… We are doing shows all around LA and have our single up on youtube.
Skope: At what age did you start to play music and want to make it a career?
The Effect: Around 16, I had already been rapping for a few years but just realized the potential and how satisfied I would be in life if I reached a dream that big. It’s definitely what gets me up in the morning. Its how I see myself reaching a new level and making it better for everyone in my life.
Skope: Where do you turn these days to hear new music?
The Effect: Mostly the internet, there’s so many streaming sites and new music dropping the computer is the only way to keep up with it all. Occasionally I will hear new stuff on the radio but the radio definitely is not as dominant as it used to be.
Skope: What is your ideal mood & setting to write & play music?
The Effect: Just open to ideas. Sometimes things just come to you quicker and you feel connected to the writing and a song comes out in no time. My favorite studio setting involves my group, some beer and some bud. Everyone let’s out their creative side when they loosed up a bit.
Skope: What is coming up for you & where you at online?
The Effect: Album photo shoot is next, then we have to master our album and get it promoted and released. We will be doing shows in the meantime so if your in LA watch out for The Effect! Stay updated on our facebook page.

"Artist Reviews"

JPrhyme's rapping has to be strong because the arrangement to "Be Strong" is particularly stripped down. And he is quite a strong rapper, indeed.

The track's arrangement brings Eminem's great "Love the Way You Lie" to mind, especially with its male rap and female singing section. This guy just might have what it takes. - Dan Macintosh

"Now Hear This: JPrhyme"

Austin-born, Santa Monica-based J. Prhyme, aka Johnny Edson, snagged his SAG card as an actor at age 4 and then started on a music career, writing lyrics and songs at the ripe old age of 10. We’re not sure how much acting he’s still got time for, since now he seems to be putting all his life experiences into his positive philosophy and hip-hop tunes.

What year did you start performing live as J. Prhyme?

It was 2008 when I got my first gig at The Airliner in L.A. This is what really got me hooked into the game. After crafting my work for years it was awesome to come out to a big crowd and get them moving behind my music. There’s no other feeling like it and there’s no going back after you’ve experienced it.

How did you start writing songs?

My dad was a writer, my uncle is a musician, so you can almost say I was born into it. I’ve been into hip hop music since I can remember, and when I was about 10 I sat down and started writing my own lyrics. To me it was exciting and easy to express anything I felt. Through the years I got more serious, working with new producers and engineers to help me get some songs made. Now the past couple years have brought a lot of new opportunities, so I feel like now is my time to get my name out there.

What is your favorite venue/city to play?

Probably Hollywood. Its a strange place and its known around the world as the mecca of entertainment, so I always get that kind of vibe when I’m in there. Usually there are a good number of people at the clubs out there and you can almost feel that star energy when you do a show.

What was the strangest/most interesting thing to happen to you as a performer so far?

I would have to say the time when I had to bribe a security guard to let one of my performers into a show. The club was 21 and up and I was on a list that let me (19 at the time) in as a performer. Long story short, I brought a performer to do a song with me that he featured on… He was only 17. The back door was double bolt locked, so sneaking him in failed. Finally, I offered the bouncer 20 bucks and he let him in.

If you could meet any musical hero living or dead, who would it be and what would you say to this person?

Ah, such a list to pick from. I would have to say Bob Marley, he’s someone who affected the world with music and I would ask him where he drew inspiration from and what experiences in life gave him the stories he told. Plus I know he wouldn’t object to me firing up a joint, so it would also be interesting to hear the things he had to say when he was in that mind state.

What do you simply hate about being a performer/musician? You know, like the sound man showing up two hours late for a gig, buying guitar strings from “that guy” at the music store who is more interested in his Chinese food than ringing you up, or trying to find your drummer, (sorry drummers), or insert your band mate who always goes missing, two minutes before your set time.

It has to be getting booked really last minute for a show. Last month, I did a show that they confirmed with me 2 days before the actual event happened. The songs I wanted going to perform had vocalists on them, so I had to ask every singer I knew if they could memorize my hooks and come perform the next day. Of course, the vocalist on the original tracks was out of town, so I had to settle for a last minute singer. I had never heard her in my life, I just got her number from a friend of mine. Of course, she missed a few lines in the performance, which I couldn’t blame her for. Luckily, her voice was good and the performance ended up being a really good one.

What are you currently working on?

First, releasing my first project onto Itunes. I just got it up so check out Filling The Speakers by J. Prhyme. Also me and and some artists are making moves for my group, The Killbots, which consists of me (J. Prhyme), Juco and Man E Fases under Soul Entertainment owned by Hobyn Hinsaru. Working with this group is honestly the first time I have that gut feeling like ‘Damn, we are going to blow up’. The way our styles come together truly brings a new sound to the rap game. We have a tour coming up in January in the bay area of California. We are going to do shows throughout San Jose and San Francisco, so if your up there after the new years check us out. Then look out for the Killbots EP! You can stay updated at ‘JPrhyme’ on either facebook or twitter. - Sentimentalist Magazine

Bio

The Killbots is a rap group based out of Los Angeles, CA., made up of Faces, Juco and Jay Prhyme. On the mic, they prefer to be original rather than trendy and represent raw lyricism and flow. With an uncanny dedication to the craft of rap, their sound is diverse and explosive.

The variety of influences in each artists life is what makes their chemistry so dynamic. Growing up in different parts of Los Angeles and San Bernardino county, the love for hip hop grew in different ways. Fighting through adversity, the mc's each took a step towards their goals and attended The Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. Once they all left an impression on one another, they knew they would likely be doing music for the rest of their lives.
