"Killer Wails - The Central - CMW"

Who: Killer Wails

From: Toronto, ON

Where: The Central

When: Friday, May 9th, 2014

Total Score: 6.8/10

Style: Surf Punk

Crowd: The Central was packed with a nicely liquored-up crowd, who were quick to start a mosh-pit and just get rowdy.

Image: Some members of the band seemed even more intoxicated than the loudest members of the audience, most notably Jack Ovans (lead guitar), who played the whole set in his underwear. However, I would be lying if I denied a certain charm of the whole event.

Memorable Song/Moment: Killer Wails had a pretty sloppy, but a very high-energy set, everything considering.

Comments: Even though this wasn’t a great set by technical standards, it was one of those occasions people will be talking about for years. - Scene Magazine

2. Killer Wails
These guys are one of them surf'y garage rock types and
even though they only have 2 songs up for your ear holes it's
enough to have hooked me to the point where I've been
pulled out of the water and am flapping back and forth on
the bottom of the boat. Or, in this case, the surf board.
They'll be playing at Izakaya as well on April 7th with my
boys in The Atom Age, so come check dat oot. - Music She Blogged

I’m looking forward to hearing a lot more from them in the near future and once that Album is completed, we will have it up here for you to give a listen to… Good Stuff

The Killer Wails are a Toronto-based garage-rock band formed in 2013. Influenced by 60’s garage, surf rock and 70’s punk rock, the band has a unique sound with roots in traditional Rock and Roll. High energy performances and audience interaction have become staples of their live sound. Playing to packed bars in downtown Toronto, The Killer Wails are starting to make a name for themselves. In December of 2013, the band released a demo of two original songs that received positive attention from concert promoters, venues, and music bloggers. The band’s future plans include recording a full album of original work, shooting a music video, and going on tour. (Band Press)

Let’s Meet The Band

Hi our name is….

The Killer Wails

And our sound might be best described as….

Garage Surf Punk

We are….
Tyler Brown – Lead Singer

Andrew Overton – Drummer

Matt Mezda – Rhythm Guitar, Singer

Jordan May – Bass, Backing Vocals

Jack Ovans – Lead Guitar, Backing Vocals

We are originally from…..

Toronto, ON, Canada

Who are some that have an influence on your sound??

Iggy and the Stooges, Ty Segall, Bad Religion, The Cramps, Violent Femmes, FIDLAR

The first time we met was…..

I (Tyler) began working in a bar at Yonge and Dundas Square in Toronto when I met Andrew Overton. I let it be known that my band had just broken up and I was looking to form a new one. One of the servers introduced Andrew as a drummer and we quickly made plans to jam with the goal of becoming a band.

We knew we were going to be a Band when………

After some line-up changes we found solid members in Matt Mezda and Jordan May. They were high school friends of mine from Orangeville, Ontario. We had all moved to the city to escape the small town blues. At that point we were a band. It took us about a year to find a solid lead guitarist in Jack Ovans. I had begun working at another bar where I met Jack. I was told that Jack’s band had just broken up and we brought him aboard. Jack was a great addition because he had a lot of experience playing punk rock in Toronto being a former member of both The Delinquints and The Bathurst Queens.

Before starting the band we were employed as…….

Bartenders, Roofers, Floorers, and Movers.

Our craziest gig ever was….

Probably our last show. We played Jimmy Jazz in Guelph, Ontario. I had just purchased a 50 foot mic cable and I used every foot of it bringing the show to the crowd. People we’re coming in off the street to see us. This was probably the craziest though the Goodbye Party House/ Jack’s 30th Birthday Show got really wild too. Memories were lost.

The first song we wrote was…….

Americano

It’s about……
The obsession with micro-fame in your own facebook community.

What tunes are you currently jamming to…

Violent Femmes – American Music

What are some of the 1st songs you remember listening to that made you say, that’s what I want to do

I was 13 when The White Stripes came out with 7 Nation Army. It was so simple and so good at the same time.

When your touring and have some time off , where could we find you..,.,

After our jams we sometimes go to Kitch, a bar right down the street from the jam space. It’s at Dufferin and Dupont in Toronto. They serve good Mexican food and play a lot of B-Movies on the projector.

The one thing we want you to remember while your listening to us

It’s all fun and games till someone drinks all your rye. - 50thirdand3rd
