Live @ Bar Lubitsch 1-20-10
A new Elvis Presley cover band, The Kings, had us all shook up with their surprisingly reverent interpretations of Presley's hits. Anyone can do Vegas-y, bloated Elvis in tacky white suit and big hair, but it's more challenging to channel the star's early guise both musically and stylistically, especially while keeping the audacious hip thrust and leg twirls to a minimum. These guys - three brothers who initially learned the King's to play at their mother's 50-th birthday party - took care of business. Wouldn't be suprised if Lubitsch asked 'em to "enter the building" on a regular basis. - The La Weekley

Bio

The Kings consist of 3 brothers residing in LA who learned a set of Elvis songs to fly back home to South Dakota and play a surprise 50th birthday for their mother, whose all-time favorite is Elvis. Hundreds of people showed up and it turned out to be a big hit.

Shortly after, the promoters for Bar Lubitsch in West Hollywood heard of their success and asked them to play a party for them. The Bar was packed with Elvis fans dancing vigorously to their favorite hits. A music writer from the LA Weekly caught the set, fell in love with them, did a brief interview and wrote: "The Kings had us all shook up with their surprisingly reverant interpretations of Presley's hits. You won't hear many brushes on the drums with this Elvis tribute band. They take Presley's music, focusing mostly on his hits from the 50's and 60's, pick up the pace just a tad and add a touch of a new age rock feel to it. Don't be surprised when you see The Kings on billboards in your area.
