Bio

Founded in the late 1980s, THE KNAVES were originally a Detroit based indie group that later relocated to Southern California. Today we play in Italy, and in the United States. Our sound is centered on vintage instrumentation and amps (Gretsch, Fender, Vox). Our influences are extensive including the Yardbirds, Dick Dale, The Kinks, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Johnny Cash, The Ventures, The Trashmen, The Beach Boys, The Clash and even Herb Alpert. We began playing together as kids - the three Trafeli brothers and our drummer. As soon as we were able, we all left Detroit for Los Angeles and while taking day jobs recorded our first songs in a rundown rental house and out in the Mojave desert. JohnPaul Trafeli writing the lyrics to Mark Trafeli's melodies, Robert Trafeli adding bass lines and Jeff Olson bringing in rock and jazz style to percussion. We played in the L.A. area for several years but relocated to Italy due to our Italian heritage. Now we play our songs to enthusiastic Italians and travel back to the US occasionally as well.
