Bio
Burlesque has its origins in 19th century British music halls, where the term referred to a theatrical entertainment of a satirical comic bent. Beginning in the 1840s, burlesque comedy skits entertained the lower and middle classes by making fun of (or "burlesquing") the operas, plays and social habits of the upper classes. In the 1860s shapely, underdressed women were introduced to keep audiences interested. In the Victorian age, when proper women went to great lengths to hide their physical form beneath bustles, hoops and frills, the idea of young ladies appearing onstage in tights was a great thrill.
Before The Pussycat Dolls were a band and a reality TV show, they were a Burlesque troupe that featured famous guest stars including Gwen Stefani, Eva Longeria, and Christina Aguiliera. Many nightclubs now feature Burlesque nights, and some are devoted exclusively to Burlesque, like the hot spots Forty Deuce in Hollywood, Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, and a soon-to-be-club in New York City owned by Sting and David Bowie. Dita von Teese is the current pin-up model for Frederick's of Hollywood, MAC cosmetics, and Cointreau liqueur. Burlesque has become the hottest form of entertainment, and dancers are now increasingly performing at corporate parties, events, and on fashion runways. Past and present, this dance is a way to celebrate being a woman in all its outrageous glory.
Brit Lydia Thompson was burlesques first star and was instrumental in exporting burlesque to America. In the late 1860s her burlesque troupe - the British Blondes - became New York's biggest theatrical sensation. It later grew during the 1940s and 50s in the famed Storyville district of New Orleans, the birthplace of Jazz.
Today, unlike any other burlesque group, The Lalas bring more humor, audience interaction, fun and music to campuses, corporate events, clubs and festivals. Every show is uniquely choreographed, no two are alike. Burlesque has been around a long time and The Lalas take the artform to the next level with a focus on giving the audience a memorable time with plenty of comedy, jaw-dropping moments and shenanigans.
Erin Lamont is the creator and mastermind behind The Lalas. With dual Bachelors degrees in dance and marketing feature credits include: Suburgatory, Peoples Choice Awards 2012, CSI:NY, Lady Gaga, The Veronicas, Trace Adkins, Kevin Rudolph, Boys Like Girls, The Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants on NBC, CSI:NY, CMTs hit Show Your Chance to Dance, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Disney, ABC, Spike TV, Puma, Nike, Skechers, Wella, Vidal Sassoon, and working with famed director; Akiva Goldsman in conjuction with Warner Brothers. While working full time in the entertainment industry, Erin also has taught master classes in over 40 states across the US, and for Broadway Dance Centre Tokyo, Sydney Dance Company, and ABC Dance Group in Vietnam.
Her handpicked dancers all have that "it" factor and amazing resumes as professional performers with work including MTV VMA's, Dancing with the Stars, P. Diddy, Kanye, Katy Perry tours, FunnyorDie.com, Nike ads, Paul Oakenfold, Disney, Ryan Seacrest, the film Rock of Ages, New Girl, Glee, XBOX, and many many more.
