Bio

In the spirit of new beginnings that their namesake harvest festival evokes, WAMi nominated Perth psychedelic folk rock band The Lammas Tide released their debut EP ‘High Tide’ in November 2011 to critical success.

The Lammas Tide was formed in 2010 and is made up of Em Urquhart (vocals, keys, mandolin), Fiona Davidson (fiddle and vocals), Matt Romaro (bass), Jeremy Segal (guitar) and Marcus Davidson (drums). Drawing influence from the vintage soundscapes of Jefferson Airplane, Jethro Tull and 60s folk rock pioneers Fairport Convention, The Lammas Tide combines elements of traditional English and Scottish folk music with driving grooves, fuzzed out guitar riffs and soaring vocal harmonies to create a unique sound that is both current and timeless.

The four track EP was recorded with Rob Grant at Poons Head Studios in Fremantle, using analogue tape and a collection of vintage equipment to capture the band’s classic sound. Opening track and lead single ‘The Hudson Line’ draws the listener in with its enchanting fiddle, taking them to another era and urging them to move their feet.

The Lammas Tide is currently working on a new single, ‘Partridge Farm’, which combines their characteristic 60’s groove and folk melodies and is due for release mid-2012.

“The Lammas Tide is an exciting new band to see. All [members] are brilliant in their own right.” – Faster Louder

“These sounds are from the heartland of psych and yet it's so different from the psych everyone else is doing right now… What you get is refreshingly energetic folk-rock. The highly (folk) danceable single The Hudson Line is a deeply nostalgic but quite compelling trip to the hippie heyday of Greenwich Village.” - 4ZZZ FM
