Bio

Originally from Boston, MA, Lance Houston (Berklee College of Music, 1995) and his talented jazz quintet produce magical and imaginative interpretations of jazz standards. Lance Houston has performed internationally with his distinctive approach to jazz improvisation. Lance Houston has studied jazz with Jeff Stout, Lin Biviano and many others. Many jazz listeners compare Lance Houston's smooth flugelhorn delivery as reminiscent of Freddie Hubbard, Hugh Masekela and Woody Shaw. After a five year hiatus, Lance Houston has returned to the east coast jazz scene with his unique blend of vibrant harmonics and innovative and originally written jazz tunes. The Lance Houston Jazz Quintet delivers to you jazz at its finest!

The Lance Houston Jazz Quintet is the perfect accompaniment to any event looking to add a touch of elegance with live jazz music. Guests will enjoy conversation while having the intellectually stimulating and subtle sounds of this distinct jazz quintet playing in the background. With a unique voice and their love for this complex art form, the Lance Houston Jazz Quintet will enlighten the atmosphere and mood of a room at any gathering. The group is comprised of piano, bass, drums, guitar and flugelhorn. Lance Houston plays a miles davis-like sound with his classic flugelhorn. Whether it be a private club or large auditorium, the Lance Houston Jazz Quintet's smooth and vibrant sound will move you.

Darrell Loud (guitar) holds a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts, majoring in jazz studies. He is the winner of the 1998 jury-awarded Excellence Award for Jazz Performance, the highest honor bestowed to music majors. He has also attended the Berklee School of Music (1996) and New England Conservatory (2006). Currently a guitar teacher at the Bosse School of Music, he has played around Boston, including Symphony hall. Dave Shoudy (upright bass) grew up in the Albany, NY area and started playing bass at the age of 9. Through the age of 18, he focused primarily on classical bass, playing in various orchestras through high school. In 2002, he was selected to the New York State All-State Orchestra. Since then, Dave has shifted his focus toward jazz. He also plays electric bass. He has played in several jazz quartets, PIT orchestras for musical productions, and jazz/funk groups over the years. REL Rejman, (drums) grew up in Brookline, MA. His first main instrument was guitar. While playing in various rock bands, his interests in different styles of music grew. He attended the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, with a focus on composition, arrangement, synthesis, computer music and the art of audio recording techniques, culminating with an original multi media thesis, performed live on stage. He currently plays drums in various bands, creates original music and records whenever possible.
