"Rough Trade"

the debut single from the late greats on new label izumi records. they are a bright, nervous and strong. they write songs from their hearts, albeit their messy hearts. 'bang bang' is part the sound of deltasonic records back catalogue mixed with the energy of the early the only ones. the flip 'life without balloons' is a more laid-back and has the feel of an indie band that have lived on a diet of obscure 60's 7"s. - Rough Trade

"PlayLouder.com"

Caramba! This comes with maracas, handclaps, loads of very luvverly jangles, an exciting shimmy solo, and plenty of in-yer-own-accent singing, and it all clocks in around the three-minute mark too. That, readers, is 2005 in a fun-sized nutshell, wethinks, or, if you prefer, it makes them the ideal new-millennial early Bluetones. Either way, greatness is, cheeringly, something of a given... - PlayLouder.com

"Karma Download"

The Late Greats arrived on Karmadownload on the 17th of October, 2005. On the 18th, we were in love with them. What are they like? Well, it's kind of like that Phil Spector sound with a smidgen of Motown, a kind of 'wall of soul.' Their website claims they are like the link between The Only Ones and The Shangri-Las and on that comparison, I'd agree.

Like any band destined for true greatness, it's the passion and energy in the delivery that really captures you. The drums sound like they are being pounded with every last ounce of energy, and the vocals are passioned and heartfelt. Not only do they wear their hearts on their sleeves, on every song, but the heart and soul comes across in the songs. - Karma Download

THE SPIEL
THE LATE GREATS. Bright, nervous, strong. Four unassuming men who play with unexpected abandon. Max, Ryan, Ben and Jon write songs from their hearts, albeit their messy hearts. They’re on edge, not edgy. Arrangements are fantastically inconsistent – Panic! It’s gonna be alright.

THE MUSIC
Bang Bang goes weak at the knees for The Only Ones, pants like a puppy but shakes like a Shrangi-La! Confused? They are. Mood swings are beautifully captured. Life Without Warning – steady, unsure, widescreen cold reality.

THE SINGERS
Then comes the confidence. Demanding, raw & royally pissed off. Ryan stamps, Ryan shouts - in a soap opera tantrum. Don’t even look at me, it’s me and the Pixies so piss off. Awkward.

“I’ve been waiting for hours” Gifted, intimate yearning, Max. Here’s the light, here’s the trust.

THE CALL
Unashamed. This is a call. Get wide-eyed and don’t be a stranger
