"The Law, "All Shined Up""

RECOIL MAGAZINE - All Shined Up is as advertised: beer spillin’ country music. No song goes longer than three-and-a-half minutes, but none need to. “Tennessee Top Hat,” “Factory Woman Woman,” “Cheatin’ In My Mind” and “Purdy One” are a few of the titles, and it’s not too tough to figure out their meanings well within the allotted time. If you laugh or dance too much however, you may miss that these boys from Grand Rapids have talent, or at least enough sense to stick to what they’re good at. The lyrics are all well written, and the lead vocals on songs like “Goldmine” resonate as well as anything on country radio. The faster numbers jam like a rock band would at a hoe down. With this debut, The Law proves there is such a thing as smart hillbilly country. — Nick Stephenson (RECOIL 2/2007)
