Bio
A child of the Colorado and Kansas of the 70’s, raised on Denver country radio stations and Midwestern farmlands, Lawrence Peters creates music full of the dirt and mythos of the American West: ghost towns, floodplains, dust storms, and endless blue skies.
Deeply influenced by the honky tonk and bluegrass traditions his songs speak of heartbreak, happiness, love won and lost, and that particular yearning for a place you may never see again.
Lawrence has made a name for himself as one of Chicago’s hardest working musicians, equally at home playing hot and sweaty soul music, squalling psych-rock, or stomping honky tonk. In addition to writing and performing in his own group, Lawrence Peters plays his self-made electric washboard in swamp-rock outfit The Velcro Lewis Group, and provides primitive percussion for acid-punks Plastic Crimewave Sound; both bands recently hit the ten-year mark in their contributions to the Chicago music scene.
Lawrence was featured on the first Magnolia Electric Company album singing lead on the song “The Old Black Hen”, and he has been involved in other projects as diverse as Tijuana Hercules, The Golden Horse Ranch Band, Mar Caribe and Hardscrabble.
Lawrence Peters is a life-long explorer of the filthy, sexy, brutal wonders of old-school country, rhythm & blues, rock & roll, pop and gospel; and he drizzles those influences over all of his projects.
