The Layders

The layders is band or rather a music collective consisting of three members Teboho a.k.a. Scott Ross, Mothusi a.k.a. Serenade Amoureuse and Khensane aka Ckenz Voucal. The very essence of what the layders are is music with no boundaries and that’s why they cannot be associated with any specific genre. The most prominent though of some of the genres that we do are Hip Hop, Neo soul, House, Latin American music like the mimosa, Jazz, Kwaito, Funk, the lists goes on and on. The point is that we are a music band and not constraint to specific genre.

Background of the members.
Scott Ross is the sound engineer, drum programmer and is in charge of arranging and some of the composing, he is the house music expert and he is extraordinary when it comes to gardening. Scott started his musical career as a house Dj and when he was 16 won a competition of sorts. Scott is not a fan of soccer and doesn’t like the color of cucumbers.

Ckenz Voucal is the vocalist of this trio. His smooth and versitile vocal abilities enables a unique taste to this ensamble. He has special writing ability and an outstanding stage prescence, watching him in action will blow you away. Being the granchild of Hilda Tloubatla, one of the singers of the legendary Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens, he is very serious of creating the next generation of musical pioneers. Ckenz enjoys his tea with 2 sugars, which you should stir anti clockwise.

Derran Fords is a Guitarist by nature, Bassist by night and a keyboard player when the cats away he has a lot to do with composing and dabbles in singing. Derran studied Jazz and contemporary music at the Campus Of Performing Arts and got his N6 all the while working at cheese factory in Soshanguve. Derran has done numerous sessions with recording artists such as Faith Kekana, Condry Ziqubu, Lira, Mandisa Mthembu, Brandon power ranger and a few others. Derran doesn’t iron his T-shirts and finds the boks devastatingly amusing.

Band profile

The layders is music collective that makes house, hip-hop, hard hop, ghettotech, acid jazz, down tempo and drum n bass. The layders are studio based but much prefer the live element. The music is co-composed by Derran and Scott, arranged by Scott and the instruments done by Derran. With their single ' smiling with the sun' airing on metro fm, yfm and other stations, they are one band the world should hear about, because of their international appeal.
