"Thursday Night Gallivanting"

I keep liking the band more every time I see them and I'm especially fond of their song titles, or at least their choruses, including "Until I Write A Good Song, This Will Have To Do," "First Dog In Space," "I'm Sure I Didn't Drink Any Cold Piss" and "Deliberately Foxy."

Bio

The Legendary Dirtbikers
Propulsive psychedelic stomp, sitting in the car with engines gunning and great tunes: The Legendary Dirtbikers.

Founding members Fred Robinson (UIC, Possum, the Chickens) and Mark Gabriel (Knockout Pill, the Warped 45’s) found themselves playing and recording what would become known as the Legendary Dirtbiker tapes. Fred and Mark had been the creative core of Holy Microphone, which had released the critically acclaimed Goodbye Television Girl in 2006. The producer of Television Girl, guitar player Duncan Blair (the Mummers, Paul Emery and the Dickens, Amer Diab) soon found himself unable to resist the sweet draw of the Dirtbiker flavor and came aboard. As a drummer-less trio, the Dirtbikers began to distill an addictive melodic brew that churns with the grease of the amplifiers. Determined to rock and no drummer fit for the role, Duncan soon switched to drums. They were free to devote themselves to the pursuit of the song, melting their favorite rock clichés into epic and catchy tunes.

After two years of gigging and hundreds of hours of rehearsal recordings, the Legendary Dirtbikers caught the ear of Peter Timmins (Cowboy Junkies). After seeing them at Parkdale’s Mitzi’s Sister, Peter asked if he could be a Dirtbiker too. With the quartet now welded together they began to reach new heights. Influenced by life’s rich pageant, alien lanes, surfer rosa, definitely maybe, band on the run, winning hearts, all hail discordia, crooked rain crooked rain, some girls, penthouse, the slider, summerteeth, love it to death, los angeles, green river, live at leeds, a.m., give me fiction, transmissions from the satellite heart, meddle, candy apple grey, psycho candy.

Currently the band is embarking on their first studio recording which will be released as a series of 7” singles, beginning in June of 2010. With selective engagements around Toronto and touring to follow, the Legendary Dirtbikers are coming for you.
