"The Lighter Exchange"

The Lighter Exchange
By Todd McFliker

Opening last weekend for international rock stars, Candlebox, The Lighter Exchange more than impressed the large audience in Fort Lauderdale. Performing straight from the heart with intense lyrics reflecting love and hate from men’s daily lives, the four boys’ raw performance certainly pleased their crowd in the Culture Room.

In 2006, singer Christian Wilson met up with the multitalented guitarist and vocalist from Boca Raton, James McMullin. “James is an incredibly gifted musician and has a completely different vocal tone than myself,” he explained. “The first time we got in a room together, we knew we had something special.” The two recruited long-time friends and confidants, bass player Brett Berdoll and Travis Zimmer behind the drums. In fact, James and Travis performed together at the Culture Room back in 2000 with their old band, Four Years Past. Christian loves playing in a band with the other guys. “I bring in a rough sketch of a song, and they add counter melodies and dynamics in ways that, often times I would have never imagined. It’s like watching your child grow and it’s a truly wonderful experience.”

The Lighter Exchange entered a recording studio earlier this year in their hometown of Orlando to begin work on their self-produced debut, Truth be Told. The full album should be hitting stores later this summer, touring heavily, and standing the test of time.

Bio

There is hope in despair... there is beauty in darkness... and there is melody in silence. These are the places that theLighterExchange begins. The Orlando-based 4 piece crafts songs with heart and soul, and draws from the ups and downs of everyday life for inspiration. "We truely want to effect people with our songs" says frontman Christian Wilson "This is far more than a hobbie for us. We are committed to making powerful music that will stand the test of time...it's not always about being poetic, sometimes you just have to say what needs to be said & be true to yourself. We bare our souls in these songs and will continue to do so."

About a year ago, Christian began the search for the missing pieces to the musical puzzle, and he didn't have to search long. Enter guitarist/vocalist James McMullin... "James is an incredibly gifted musician and has a completely different vocal tone than myself. The first time we got in a room together, we knew we had something special". The two recruited long-time friends and confidants Brett Berdoll (bass) and Travis Zimmer (drums) and theLighterExchange was on their way..."being in a band with these guys is such a joy because they're all so goddamn good" he laughs "I bring in a rough sketch of a song, and they add counter melodies and dynamics in ways that, often-times I would have never imagined. It's like watching your child grow and it's a truly wonderful experience."

The band entered legendary King Snake Studios earlier this year to begin work on their self-produced debut "Truth be Told". They hired Los Angeles producer extaordinaire Scott Gilman to add the finishing touches to the album that they plan to release this summer along with heavy touring...
