Bio
In a relatively brief period of time, the hard-working quintet known as The Light Within has made a powerful mark on the indie punk scene, with a distinctive sound and an iconoclastic attitude that have allowed them to stand out amongst the multitude of young American bands vying for fans' attention. The five bandmates' shared dream and purpose comes into sharp musical focus on The Light Within's forthcoming first full-length album What Will It Take, due for release in later this year.
In the short time they've been together, The Light Within—the band—vocalist Jesse Lopez, drummer Jimmy Boyette, lead guitarist Andrew Dailey, rhythm guitarist Frank Noble and bassist Daemon Drew—has successfully striven to develop a unique creative voice, combining catchy melodic riffs, intricate hardcore breakdowns and thoughtful, personally-charged lyrics. Their vibrant balance of sonic muscle, melodic skill and lyrical insight has already won the band a loyal fan base that's embraced their compelling live performances and supported their recorded debut, the 2012 digital EP Oxygen.
Lopez, Dailey and Boyette began writing songs together while sharing a cramped apartment in their hometown of Lake Worth, Florida. This formative period forced them to take stock of their personal and creative goals, setting the stage for The Light Within's live debut in June 2012.
"Cramming three broke guys into a small one-bedroom apartment kept us humble, and influenced us to create lyrics that carry positive life lessons," asserts Lopez.
The Light Within's driving sound, inspiring lyrics and powerful live performances developed quickly, and the band's speedy musical evolution has been rewarded with the loyalty and support of a growing grass-roots network of fans.
"Our fans have been so incredibly supportive of us, and they're the reason we've gotten this far and keep pressing on," Lopez notes. "We've faced a lot of hardships along the way, and having their encouragement really eased things and kept us positive. We've had fans tell us that our music has impacted them in a positive way, and that makes all the work we've put into this worthwhile."
The musicians' tenacious perseverance helped them to record What Will It Take in a breakneck week-and-a-half of sessions, and that adrenaline-charged experience is reflected in the energy and immediacy of the album's performances, which provide a potent vehicle for the lyrics' life-affirming messages.
"We're striving to define a distinct sound, and to put across a happy, fun, hate-free vibe," states Lopez, adding, "We're a bunch of down-to-earth guys who love music and love people, we're dedicated and hard-working, and we love our fans unconditionally.
"We all have the potential to find an inner light within ourselves," Lopez concludes, "and that's what we strive to put across in our music."
