"DESTINATION: LINDA IMPERIAL BAND"

By Ann-Marie Baldini

With a combined 250-plus years of music industry experience that dates back to the Bay Area’s "Summer Of Love" and rocks steady right into this present day, the Linda Imperial Band fuse their rich musical histories -- having performed individually with some of the most impressive and innovative rock, jazz, R&B, and (dare I say it) disco bands -- to form a contemporary sound that appeals to hippies, hipsters, and headbangers alike. - Bam Magazine

Linda Imperial

With her powerfully inspired vocals, her wit and charm and her unmistakably warm and genuine presence on stage, chanteuse, band leader and composer, Linda Imperial has electrified and entertained audiences around the world. Beginning her career with San Francisco rockers, Kid Courage, Linda quickly established herself in variety of other genres, from Jazz to to Dance to Trance and beyond. Her list of credits and associations is dizzying, having worked for and with The New York Jazz Explosion, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Starship, Sylvester, The Weather Girls and many, many more. With Loverde, a ‘70’s dance/vocal group which Linda co-founded with front man Frank Loverde, she toured the world, promoting the group’s breakout hit, ‘Die Hard Lover,’ which debuted on Billboard at #4, and stayed there, not for days or weeks, but for months and months and months. As a solo artist, Linda’s own songs have also hit the charts, both in the U.S. and abroad. As a live performer, she is a powerhouse. With her phenomenal voice, her passion and her power she sends chills down the crowd's collective spine

David Freiberg

David is co-founder of the legendary Avalon/Carousel/Fillmore era San Francisco band, Quicksiver Messenger Service, who along with The Dead & The Airplane, often shared the bill. David is an extraordinary singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, bass, viola and keyboards. He has also been a member of both Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship which he co-founded as a touring entity in 1974 … re-uniting with Paul Kantner in 2005, after a 20 year absence. David co-wrote one of the band’s all-time biggest hits, “Jane” – which he performs.

Steve Valverde

Originally from Los Angeles, Steve began his musical career playing clubs in L. A. Then, after moving North, he worked his way through UC Berkeley playing such classic Bay Area hot spots as the Long Branch, Keystone Berkeley, the Boarding House and Freight and Salvage.
Immediately after graduating from Berkeley, Steve hit the road, appearing in clubs and concerts throughout the United States and the Far East, including extensive tours in Korea and Japan.
Returning to the Bay Area, Steve began performing and recording with Chris Rowan (The Rowan Brothers), and sharing the stage with such luminaries as the Jerry Garcia Band and David Crosby, while also perfoming with many other exciting Bay Area artists like Zulu Spear, Paul Pena, members of The Doobie Brothers, The Blues Project, Elvin Bishop, Huey Lewis & The News, Eddie Money, and It's A Beautiful Day.

Peter Harris

If you're a Dead Head, you may remember Peter from his days with the post-Garcia version of Jerry's solo band, JGB. Pete's solos with JGB brought down the house during their coast-to-coast U.S. tour. Although one House of Blues CD release is all that remains of that powerhouse unit, Peter Harris is alive and kicking.
Peter has been written up in Guitar Player Magazine and is an experienced music instructor as well as a respected musicologist.

Doug Freedman

Doug began playing at the ripe old age of three. At 13, he was already on the road with the recording act 'The Young Californians,' and by sixteen he had appeared with jazz giants Dizzy Gillespie and Don Ellis.
As a member of 'Vital Signs,' one of the Bay Area's most popular acts, Doug played on the band's soundtrack recording for 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure' as well as on the hysterical George Carlin video. Doug and the band also toured with Tina Turner, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Steppenwolf, Rick Derringer and Night Ranger. Vital Signs soundtrack recording for the movie 'Fantom' resulted in Doug's moving to L. A. where he joined Iron Butterfly for a two year run. He also did long stretches with the Coasters, Kim Weston and Jimmie McCracklin.

David Kaffinetti

David grew up in London where, as a young artist, he was a founding member and keyboardist with progressive rockers Rare Bird, whose hit single, "Sympathy" was an international smash. RB recorded 5 albums and toured extensively throughout the UK and the Continent.
Among David's most lasting contributions to music was his keyboard work on Chuck Berry's 'London Sessions,' which was pressed into a solid gold disc and launched into outer space aboard the fabled Voyger Space Probe in 1973.
David also hit the big time in the 1980's, landing the role of Viv Savage, the nutty keyboard player in the classic rockumentary, "Spinal Tap".
