"Surely all art is the result of one's having been in danger, of having gone through an experience all the way to the end," said the poet Rilke. And so it is with Daniel Moore's lyrical earthquakes and Chuck Sandru's and Mitch Jaber Jr's musical reconstruction. One is left as they once were, and are bound to be again, searching for safe paths to walk through the wreckage of this beautiful, broken world. Like any true artists those paths begin in the unguarded temples of their hearts, where there on the walls written in blood are the peaceful psalms and brutal ballads, prophetic hymns of men gone mad with the power of clarity and truth. Whether it's the aching lament of a relapsed addict in the song, "Angel Of Remorse," or the voice of a lover drunk on eros in the song, "Never Wake Up," not one breath of life is assumed or forgotten. These are hymns of heretics and saints, composed in a monastery few will ever visit, and still fewer could ever call "Home." But for those who can listen with the ears of their soul, and see with the eyes of their hearts, these are roses blooming in the barbed wire, dreams you having with your eyes wide open, visions of life beaten into love by the cold, stone hammer of loss.
