Reuben and Kimberley met on kijiji when Kimberley replied to Reuben's post looking for a new project where he wouldn't be restricted musically. He wanted someone to share the lead vocals with lots of original songs and original arrangements and spanning a variety of genres. This is what those first few emails looked like:

Hi, do you have any of your music online? Can you tell me more about yourself?
Thanks

Absolutely, I can show you a little online video. First I must make a bunch of excuses about why it doesn't sound as good as I usually do (bad mic on the camera, sore throat, etc) but you are welcome to have a listen. Seriously though, I will tell you that this video is of one styles. I really want to have a variety of different styles and don't want to be bound to one genre. I am a huge Barenaked Ladies fan, mainly because of their phenomenal songwriting, but also because they are so versatile and original. Anyways, check out this link.

And as far as more about me, ummm... I am 28 years old... I'm a manager at @#$%$%@%%.. My favorite color is... ok, I don't think I have a favorite color. What would you like to know? Tell me about YOURself? And can I hear you online at all? OH, I should definitely tell you that my name is Reuben. Unless I may have mentioned that in the ad. I don't really remember how I worded it. ;)

Hi Reuben,
I am Kimberley, also 28 yrs old. Been playing music for years, used to host an open mic in the city. I have a couple of videos, but also with sound problems ;-) couldn't feed through the sound board as we had hoped. So it is just the cam mic. But give a listen if you like, and let me know if you'd like to jam sometime

From there they started learning each others favorite songs and after about a year of jamming, the played their first show at Eddie Shorts. About 100 people came out and the show was really fun. The energy in the room that night was what really ignited the flame for The Living Daylights. So they began to audition other musicians in the hopes of putting together a real "band". Luckily they were able to find Sean Stephens who, after a month of touring the east coast with another project, decided he really wanted to be a Daylight. Also luckily, there were no shortage of friendly musician and "Honorable Daylights" to jump on stage and play along, really helping to keep the sound fresh for every show. Since then, they have played at various venues around town, a garage house concert at Reuben's parents, a wedding reception, a Chinese New Year dinner show, a backyard show, Flower Fest and more than a few living rooms around the city.
