“The silence of the listeners became strict with abruptly focused attention, cigarettes were unlit, and drinks stayed on the tables; and in all of the faces, even the most ruined and most dull, a curious, wary light appeared.” - James Baldwin (Another Country)

The Vegas Report

Written By: Joshua Schanck

We're all on the same ship
We're all in the same old shit
Our kingdom come
Our will be done
We're pressing on.

I could ignore you.
I could destroy you.

Believe for a moment
That everything is deliberate
And definite,
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
We're pressing on.

I could ignore you.
I could destroy you.

The Sawyer

Written By: Joshua Schanck

Things seem to fall into shape at dawn
And I know my place, strike my heel
in the fields.
With coffee on my teeth
And sawdust around my feet
I make my arms machines.
I get paid to pick up the pieces
The fall makes use of us all
A bird of prey is prowling in circles
To bring something to the table.
With coffee on my teeth
And sawdust around my feet
I make my arms machines.
The hum of the saw
And the mouse under the claw
The hawk is hungry.
