"Stephen Case Foster"

Do you ever meet someone and think that they should’ve been born in a different time? Stephen Case Foster is one of those people. His music doesn’t sound like it was written any time in the last 80 years, but still feels modern and fresh at the same time. Mixing Delta Blues, Old Time Southern Folk, and modern Bluegrass and Folk, Foster is a master of the genre. It’s not that he’s the best at what he does, it’s that he’s the only one doing what he does.

Foster doesn’t have a full album out, but he’s “got a studio and pro tools…so” it works out. The tracks he has recorded are up here. Foster’s strongest aspect is his songwriting. He can craft a yarn that’s wrenching and true, and his voice is often accompanied by slide guitar, which he masterfully weaves around the melody. That beautiful sound comes from a beautiful source. He plays a 20s Gibson Parlor; it adds beautifully to the entire spirit of his songs.

The lyrics of Brother are the truest example of Foster’s song crafting, and the punchline will send shivers up your spine. Fly Away, while giving a nod to the song you’re thinking of, is an original with beautiful finger picking, and more modern lyrics and melody.

No matter how contemporary some of Foster’s tunes are, they still hint of a time long past.
If you’re in the Denver area, be sure to watch the venue calendars, I have a feeling he’s soon to be all over them. - 4 to 12 Music Blog

Bio

The Lonesome Outfit formed in March of 2011 as a studio project to record frontman Stephen Case Fosters EP, and discovered such a powerful band dynamic that they decided to continue as a cohesive act. Continuing into 2012, the group has big plans for new releases, and great shows throughout the Denver area and beyond. Always growing and expanding, the act can be seen busking on First Friday, playing an energetic set at a local venue, or putting on a great concert for a captivated audience - and everything inbetween. With an upcoming EP and a unique mix of traditional and modern sentiments, The Lonesome Outfit proves to be a defining sound of Rocky Mountain Folk with sweeping ballads and driving dancehall tunes.
