It all started with Bon Jovi's "Livin' On a Prayer". After that, me and hook and melody were real tight. When I was about 13 I remember playing Dave Brubeck's "Take 5" from memory off of an old Infinity car commercial that I had heard a few days before. I was so psyched, I didn't even care that it was in the wrong key.
As long as I can remember (which was around the age of 15) I have been writing music. I don't keep a personal journal but I do write music almost everyday. It's become my own way of keeping track of where I am. This process, for the most part, has been a private one. My father passed away in 2003. Exactly six months after his death I wrote 3 songs "Rollerskates, Burnin' and 2by2. They are songs about love loss and connection - plus they're pretty sexy. I don't know where they came from, they just sort of happened, but I feel my father had something to do with it. Those songs are on our first 5 song self-released EP, "Shorty-P".
On March 21, 2004 we played our first show in the basement of my house. It almost didn't happen but my sister Sylvia and my good friend Seth insisted I play and offered to provide instrumental and vocal accompaniment the first time out - the band hasn't changed since.
We had our first show at a local venue on January 10, 2005. From then on, The Long Ranger's popularity has taken off, flexing our mic steez and our dance skills with many genre favorites such as The Go! Team, Tegan and Sara, The Books, and Pretty Girls Make Graves to name a few. We have also had a lot of support from the local musical community. Local indie rock Belle-wethers, Three Imaginary Girls has listed The Long Ranger on several accounts as personal favorites, and two songs "Rollerskates" and "Burnin" have been played on KEXP, and KGRG.
We bring energy and hope through the music we play. We want to inspire people, but mostly, inspire people to shake a ass! A co-worker of mine once overheard a Long Ranger song and said,"It's like I'm sippin on bubble tea in a Japanese airport." I take it as a compliment.
