BandCountryAlternative

Classic American roots music as performed by original new wave/punk scenesters. All players are multi instrumentalists who are influenced by alternative/underground and country styles.

Biography

Lost Anglers pursues its own brand of “C ‘n’ W” … Country New Wave. Their hurtin’ ballads and standards mix harmony vocals, acoustic guitar with dual lead guitars and a punk influenced rhythm section. Formed in Toronto in 2005, by four members of the 70s New Wave band, the Cads (Do the Crabwalk - EP), guitarist Ross Edmunds, drummer Chris Terry, singer John Ford and guitarist Owen Burgess. Edmunds, Terry and Burgess write the original material, following muses as diverse as Marty Stuart, Daniel Johnson and Bob Nolan.

Chris Terry drums vocals guitar. Chris drummed for Oh Those Pants - OCADs semi-mythical 70s art schlock orchestra - the Cads, E-Static and the Everglades. These days, Chris also steps up to the mic to sing and play guitar on some of the lovely sad love songs he writes. He, along with fellow Angler Ross Edmunds, is co-producer/co-director of “The Ballad of Handsome Ned”, the officially sanctioned film biography of legendary Queen West cowboy, Ned Masyk, scheduled for release in 2008.

John Ford vocals and guitar. John and his trusty Gibson have been playing music since the mid-70s. More recently, you may have heard him around town in duets with his brother Mike Ford, Cathy Seeley, or as a double second pannist with Toronto’s world-renowned Afropan Steelband.

Ross Edmunds vocals harmonica guitar. Ross is a veteran of too many nights playing the Bev, the Colonial Tavern, Larry's Hideaway, the Horseshoe, the Cabana Room and Davids as bassist with Oh Those Pants, Cads, New Japs, Doncasters and guitarist and singer for the Sportsmen, Byters and the Ruin. His company, Hi-Fi Records, released “Shoeshine Boy” by seminal Toronto femmepunks the Curse.

Owen Burgess guitar vocals. After time with Oh Those Pants, Owen joined the Cads as rhythm guitarist and co-songwriter with lyricists Chris Terry and legendary king cad himself, Bag Asteroid. Following a brief stint with the Byters he took 20 years off.

Ghost Town

Written By: Ross Edmunds

Lovelock's a faded post card
The scene's a dusty afternoon
A musty motel room, a junk yard
An old guitar and a brand new tune
We were on the road in Nevada
Never traveled there before
Made our fortune up in Canada
Lost our love and so much more

Like a ghost town one imagines
We've seen some better days
Like a ghost town one imagines
Maybe we'll even stay

We're out one night drinking
And up 'till way past dawn
Felt the pain of a bitter sting
When I awoke and you were gone
I knew you'd go on with him
To drink some more you said
Out past the seventh line
I wished that I was dead

I followed the tracks of his old truck
Down along the gravel line
I pulled up along side the cab
Shot that old 45 of mine
I wonder what life might have been
Had I joined the drillin' gang
Would I be buyin' time in Reno
Or simply praying for little rain.

Lovelock's a faded post card
The scene a dusty afternoon
But I remember a musty motel room
An old guitar and a brand new tune

Like a ghost town
Like a ghost town
Like a ghost town

If I had The Wind Behind Me

Written By: Owen Burgess

If I had the wind be-hind me
You would not be safe
If I had the wind be-hind me
I’d be coming back your way
Phoenix down to Tuc-son’s
Not such a long, long way
If I had the wind be-hind me
You would pay You would pay

Were there no chains to bind me
You would not be safe
Were there chains to bind me
I’d be coming back again
Everything a man is worth
Is a bond I’d surely break
Were there no chains to bind me
You would pay You would pay

You would pay with all your love
And all your dreams
You would pay with all your warmth
and charm…

You would pay like be-fore
With a piece of your heart
You’d give everything to me
Just for love Just for love

You would not think kindly
If I made her cry
You would not think kindly
Of one more stolen night
Tucson up to Phoenix
You will not come this way
And you would not think kindly
If I stray If I stray

If I had the wind be-hind me
You would not be safe
If I had the wind be-hind me
I’d be coming back your way
Phoenix down to Tucson’s
Not such a long, long way
If I had the wind behind me
You would pay You would pay

If I had the wind be-hind me
If I had the wind be-hind me
If I had the wind be-hind me

On Sunday

Written By: Owen Burgess/ Ross Edmunds

When the Devil rides on Sunday - he may just come your way
When the Devil rides on Sunday - Sunday’s still in flames
Your love is in the churchyard - the sun is in the trees
She’s laying in the churchyard - the Devil’s on his knees
The preacher’s crying “Mercy!” - the congregation’s fled
The fire in your eyes is enough to wake the dead
On Sunday

The Devil rides at sunrise - his horse’s eyes are strange
The Devil rides at sunrise - he rode for many days
And over at the courthouse the sheriff can’t be found
His deputy is leading a posse out of town
He says “He must have come from Kansas where anyone can hide”
The horse is rearing up now and your love’s about to rise
On Sunday

He’s fear this black-eyed cowboy with chains on every limb
Silver Colt revolver, smile so cold and thin
He rode in on the night wind to take your love away
And left you by the graveside where you lay her down and prayed
On Sunday

When the Devil rides on Sunday there’s nothing left to hide
When the Devil rides on Sunday, he holds a mirror to your eyes
You see her door swing open and the sheriff slips away
And high above the graveyard the sky has turned to rain
The preacher bares his tattoo, it says “Resurrection’s been delayed”
If you’re looking for salvation – look the Devil in the face

On Sunday On Sunday
On Sunday On Sunday
On Sunday On Sunday
On Sunday
