Feeling a bit camera shy
Bio
Formed in early 2006, Portland’s Lost Cosmonauts combine the hook-laced, brainy pop of bands like Television and XTC with the driving psychedelia of Spacemen 3 and the Velvet Underground. The result is a melodic, guitar-driven attack where airy atmospherics layer themselves into moments of driving intensity.
Though the Cosmonauts have only been gigging for a few months, the band’s short history belies substantial experience on the part of its members. Guitarists Lance Bass and Brent Dielmo, along with keyboardist Charlotte Engler, are veterans of Portland’s The Shrills, a popular draw for the past 3 years. Bassist Randall Crush was a founding member of cult favorites All The Way Down and the Brian Coates Project, and drummer Marty Smith comes from Swoon 23 and the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
The band completed recording on a 4-song EP in June of 2006. The songs can be heard online at http://www.myspace.com/Thelostcosmonauts. The Lost Cosmonauts recommend seeing one of their frequent Northwest shows as the best way to find out more about the band.
