"The LOVERS play The Espy."

The Lovers Review
The Esplanade

The Lovers played at The Esplanade Hotel, in the atmospheric Front Bar, to a small but appreciative audience. The Lovers, Debra Patti, Jennifer Sparkes, Rohan Heddle and Dennis Lucardi, rely on folk and rock styles to create their particular sound. Dynamic melodic rock songs, such as She and If You Loved Me display influences of Heather Nova, Beth Orton and 70s rock gods, Led Zepplin.

The Lovers are keen to cultivate an underground buzz on home soil but can’t wait to return to their beloved New York for another stint at Arlene s Grocery. The group were in New York City last year and assembled a band via the net and a few MP3 exchanges. They were well received and the locals embraced their melodic sound. After coming home and a line up change to include a new lead guitarist, they’re ready to take on the world.

Singer Debra Patti (aka Steph on Channel 31’s On The Couch) overcame a sore throat to entertain a crowd who were none the wiser. Belting out strong vocals, Debra was backed by a well rehearsed line up -Sparkes on bass, Heddle on drums and Lucardi on lead guitar. With an EP due shortly, their immediate performance goal is a gig at The Palace supporting PJ Harvey. God, whose isn’t?!
