Bio

Peter Levin, one of music’s most sought after keyboardists, and Adam Polatov, one of the most versatile drummers on the New York music scene, have recently collaborated to create The LP, a dynamic blend of deep funk, soul, and rock. The two first performed together six years ago in New York City with Rainbow Trout and have been collaborating both on stage and in the studio since. While independently pursuing their individual musical endeavours both in the U.S. and abroad, Levin and Polatov played their first official gig together in Amsterdam in 2003 with Storm 420, a staple of the New York City jazz fusion scene. This “first time” on stage collaboration spearheaded the start of a major European festival tour in which the duo performed in support of George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars. The powerful duo complement each other brilliantly and their incomparable sound is intoxicating. Conceptually, the pair have been collaborating for years writing music, gigging, performing at jam sessions, and recording at Levin’s Brooklyn studio, Moon Palace. Levin and Polatov are currently finishing their self-titled debut EP ”THE LP” and will start touring together throughout North America, Europe and China this fall.

Individually, Levin and Polatov have performed, recorded and collaborated with award-winning artists spanning all genres; Levin with Vic Wooten, Korn, The Blind Boys From Alabama, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Levon Helm, and Polatov with Les Paul, Keith Richards, Rick Derringer, Conrad Herwig, and Hyram Bullock. Levin has electrified live performances of established acts including Jon Spencer Blues Explosion drummer Russel Simins, God Street Wine, the Zen Tricksters, Southside Johnny and Asbury Jukes, John Popper, Spin Doctors , G. Love and Special Sauce, and currently with legendary funk drummer Bernard Purdie. Similarly, Polatov has shared the stage with such notable acts as the Funky Meters, Taj Mahal, members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and Jeff “the eighth wonder” Watkins of the James Brown Band.

The pair have years of combined experience and have studied at some of the most prestigious schools of music in the country. At the age of six, Levin began studying classical piano and over the years he realized his unparalleled passion for music. Levin further honed his skills in high school by also studying drums and percussion at Drummer ‘s Collective in New York City and Boston’s Berklee College of Music. From there, he attended the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and English while still studying and performing both on piano and drums. Adam began performing and studying drums and percusission at the age of ten. He studied with a wide range of well-known local area educators before starting his professional music career in high school. There he performed in various musicals as well as weekly jam sessions at some of the biggest live music venues in Manhattan. A rising star on the New York music scene, Polatov decided to further develop his skills while pursuing a degree in Jazz Performance at the Berklee School of Music where he studied under such exemplary instructors as Kenwood Denard and Rick Considine. While at Berklee, he also had the privilege of performing in the Berklee Big Band under the direction of Wayne Naus, former lead trumpet player for Buddy Rich.

Levin and Polatov, “The LP,” have toured extensively throughout the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia. In addition to touring with Bernard Purdie, the Blind Boys of Alabama, and Donna Jean and the Zen Tricksters, Levin has also performed on several television shows including “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” He also spends a great deal of time performing and producing in his studio for both national and international artists. Inside the studio, Levin brings both innovative ideas and seasoned professionalism to a recording session and his production credits include work on albums by the Gavin Degraw, Beastie Boys, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, former Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer, and Rich Robinson of the Black Crowes. Most recently, Peter has appeared on tracks for Gym Class Heroes, Tiga, Corba Starship and Metro Station. Adam left Berklee and immediately went on tour with Rainbow Trout, a nationally renowned band with a varied mix of jazz, rock, blues, and hard beat funk. After completing a four-year tour with Trout in support of their critically-acclaimed self-titled CD, he joined the exuberant New York-based funk band Milo Z and has been playing and touring with them for the past four years throughout Greece, Austria, and top venues in New York City. He appeared on and performed live with the house band on the Carson Daly show, opening for such acts as Akon, and also performed live on a national talk show in Greece.

The pair’s infectious energy on the stage combined with their comprehensive cross-genre backgrounds make The LP an unparalleled musical exp
