"The Lucky 27s live"

The Lucky 27s
Why did the American cross the Atlantic? To meet a Yorkshireman and form The Lucky 27s, of course! Whey! Sort of, anyway. Having moved from San Diego, Nick got in touch with Jack on a website for meeting other musicians up for forming a band, and the other two, Richard and Teflon (the other Jack, obviously) just kinda filtered in.
They proper love the sounds of the 60s: the psychedelia and the low, drunken chords; but they say they pride themselves on not having songs that sound much alike their other songs. When you're so heavily influenced by a particular era, it's difficult not to challenge that, but the lads have managed to pull it off without coming across as a group of desperates who feel cheated that they weren't in their twenties in 1965. They prove this with 'Out And Down'. It sounds like 'Let Forever Be' if The Chemical Brothers had daisies in their hair.
What's really nice about this group is that the phony American accent that so many British vocalists sing with isn't actually phony! Win! It gives more substance to their sound and the Britsh/US mix blends smoothly. Who needs LSD when you've got The Lucky 27s?! Or something similar...
Sounds like: The Who, Cast, Cream

"The Lucky 27s"

Where it all began
There aren’t many bands on the scene in the UK at the moment with the advantage of an American musician – I only know of a handful. Meet The Lucky Twenty Seven’s. A fusion of American class and stage persona mixed with British originality and passion. Although the band comes from various places, from California to Barnsley, Birmingham is currently the home to this spiky electric rock band.
The Band; “Whatever Other Music Is Out There We Don’t Want”
The Lucky Twenty Sevens are doing something right, over the course of their early career they have been involved with BBC west midlands and played slots at The Northern Festival Rawfusion & Angry Duck to name a few.
Unlike a lot of acts around town the band’s name has a solid meaning as well as just sounding the part. As reflected in their logo the name relates to rock legends that passed away at the golden age of twenty seven, clever. The Band boasts a variety of sounds, successfully not staying within one genre. Rock is clearly the core element here, although folk and electro influences could be an exciting prospect for the future as well as possible unplugged sessions.
There’s lots going on with the boys at the moment and Panic Music will be casting an eager eye to watch what might happen next!
The Music
Melody is obviously very important to these musicians, which is evident in the song ‘Campaign’. The highlight of the track is the chorus – as it should be. Nick’s melody roars through the chorus with a somewhat ‘Strokes’ influenced sound. The rest of the track is spiky, upbeat and catchy. Many tracks from bands even on the big stage fail to make an impact at times by spending too much time on trying to fit in with what can be called todays ‘Post Indie Movement’, and not concentrating their efforts on the actual message. Judging by the music of The Lucky Twenty Sevens I don’t think we need worry;

Bio

This band are all Birmingham/U.K. based, all experienced musicians having played together since 2008, and have their own distinctive style and sound, that has been described as leaving their audiences "in a place they have been before, but can't quite put their finger on" Their lead vox provided by American Nick Surface is distinct and defined as purposely commercial, and retro, supported by the spiky riffs of the more than eloquent guitar of lead player Richie, this, coupled with unique bass lines, and electric drumming, ensures an audience that demands more.

The band played live on BBC West Midlands, which led to a huge demand for their live performances in 2011 ( BBC live play is on BBC WM i player/You tube/ and Facebook band page). The band are an excellent live act and extremely professional, and have supported Detroit Social Club, Dodgy and more lately in November The Moons.
