Bio

As Tasty Fanzine said: "Boasting influences as diverse as Kraftwerk and Smokey Robinson (not that they're especially esoteric, but there's a kind of unspoken gulf between the two), The Machine want you to move and they're about to force you to do it. Not in an odd way, which leaves you needing therapy, but through sheer beat-creation...". This is how promoters Union City put it: "their influences range from JS Bach to Northern Soul, Kraftwerk and The Clash. Fairly diverse - but it's all there if you listen carefully". The Machine simply like to combine as many of the things they like into an original product that becomes more than the sum of its parts.

An early formation of the band won the Diesel Underground Music Award. They have played dozens of gigs at many of the best venues in London - Shepherd's Bush Empire, The Camden Barfly, The Lexington, Water Rats, Corsica Studios, The Amersham Arms - and are now based in Brighton.

Crafting mini masterpieces with song titles like "She Dreams of Hiroshima" and "(I was Born) Like A Bullet From A Gun" won them the Diesel Underground Music Award and (unusually for a partially electronic act), their songcraft has been honoured by inclusion in a recent article in the International Songwriters' Association magazine.

In 2011 they featured recently on a special show for London's Resonance FM 104.4FM. Onstage the band integrate elements of performance art into every show, drawing on the practice of keyboard player and live artist Poppy Jackson.

The band are extraordinarily prolific and currently have more than 150 tracks written. They are currently recording another EP release, this time with Amber Records http://www.amberrecords.co.uk

Their previous release was on the Family Records label and can be purchased among other places at: http://www.junodownload.com/products/1256586-02.htm

EP Reviews:

"Boasting influences as diverse as Kraftwerk and Smokey Robinson (not that they're especially esoteric, but there's a kind of unspoken gulf between the two), The Machine want you to move and they're about to force you to do it. Not in an odd way, which leaves you needing therapy, but through sheer beat-creation. Their debut EP contains a mission statement consisting of three cuts of amphetamine-fuelled electro...second track 'A Night To Remember' is an absolute slayer, like Hard-Fi being smacked about a bit by New Order. It rocks, completely and undoubtedly. If you're a little bored of trying to work out which dance genre you should like, try The Machine's fun and direct approach to classic dance-floor lunacy and maybe, just maybe, we can convince people not to bring back crap techno from Ibiza like some persistent flesh-eating bacterium." - Tasty Fanzine

"considered pop with finesse and educated aplomb, a delivery that's stylishly tight and well rehearsed. The Machine are popsters for the masses.maddeningly catchy tunes and infectious vibes. This EP is polished, refined, nicely delivered and presents with a sense of light optimism and well-being. With their edgy sound and hook-laden songs, The Machine make it all seem too easy - everything sounds so refreshingly simple but cleverly, fully focussed." - Toxic Pete

"Retro styled three track corker from London based combo The Machine...a trio of hi - gloss in production nuggets of svelte mood-ist electro pop. The set opens with the clockwork rhythmic 'love in a dead end town' - harnessing the hook able pop sensibilities of OMD is no easy feat but here is pulled off with much admiring aplomb and cleverly threaded through a touching bleak noire like electro romanticism rarely heard since those early outings from Soft Cell yet endowed with a subtle sophisticated sheen that admirers of the much missed Leeds ensemble Yellow Stripe Nine may well swoon for. The buzz sawing pulse racing 'Night To Remember' is a darker affair still, interweaving house / acid vibes a la Underworld 'Born Slippy' this sexy and sleazy club floor crunching slab of dirty futuro funk seductively taps into the mind set of Heaven 17 c. 'Penthouse and Pavement' and twists into the matrix the essence of Aloof's 'One night stand' to provide a throbbing nocturnal teaser of some measure. The zig zagging candy twist popping 'Sheila' wraps up the set...cute as hell and so toe tappingly tasty you might want to consider nailing to the floor your dancing boots for fear of some form of hip harming hi-jinks. Check out their my space page and rip yourself the quite exquisite 'HG Wells'." - Losing Today

"A slickly produced 3 track demo for our aural pleasure...First up is Love in a Dead End Town: Swirling synths grinding out a catchy tune that'll get you wanting to thrust your hands in the air...A Night to Remember: Not altogether a million miles away from Setting Sun - The Chemical Brothers with it's building euphoric rhythms and distinctive vocals...Sheila: A charming ode to a lost love in The Upper Room / New Order style....they are
